A Day in the Life
The Tool Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing innovative and reliable industrial solutions to support product transfer from R&D to the Manufacturing sites and to support operations at the high-volume facilities based in Switzerland (SMO) and Singapore (MSO). The Tool engineer is responsible to create a wide variety of mechanical design from simple support to highly complex assemblies. The designed Toolings are used for the manufacturing of pacemakers and defibrillators in the same facility. Thus, the work of the tool engineer contributes to human welfare.
This position reports to the Engineering Supervisor, part of the Development Services team, in the Development Engineering department. The development Services team is composed of designers and mechanical technicians. The in-house machine shop allows dynamic interactions during the design phase.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conceive, design, develop and update Tooling, Fixtures, and simple Equipment for the manufacturing of medical devices.
2. Provide Technical expertise.
3. Lead, coordinate or manage internal/external Project, or Work Package within Project.
4. Interface with project leaders, process engineers, product transfer leaders to ensure on time completion of assigned mechanical designs projects.
5. Follow-up the internal/external Mechanical Request.
6. Coordinate and follow-up the Drawings approval per established standards.
7. Communicate with internal/external stakeholders.
8. Create and follow up the external suppliers’ orders.
9. Establish and maintain the required documentation (drawings, specifications, procedures, user guide...).
10. Follow the established quality standards.
11. Be pro-active to answer customer needs.
12. Contribute and participate to a safety work environment, report any EHS risks and events (injuries, illness, and accidents). Understand and enforce all Health and Safety policies, procedures and regulations.
Must-Have: Minimum Requirements
1. Min 3 years of experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment.
2. Modelling machined part.
3. Drawing, dimensioning and tolerances according to ISO/ASME standards.
4. Exposure to manufacturing environment with High Volume Facilities constraints.
5. Creating assembly with mechanism connection.
6. Knowledge in:
1. Metric and US Standard and units (ISO/ASME).
2. GD&T standards or ISO GPS.
3. Material properties (Polymers, Metal, Ceramics).
7. Fluent in French and in English.
Nice to Have:
1. Min 1 year usage of PTC Creo Parametric and use of PLM Windchill.
2. Experience in medical device or machine design is an asset.
3. Knowledge in regulated industries (FDA, ISO 13485).
4. Good understanding of:
1. Additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.
2. Modelling sheet metal part.
3. Basic Injection molding parts design.
5. Directive CE machinery.
6. Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) or lean six sigma certification.
