Introduction
The Knowledge Management Specialist will be based within the Action Programme on Crisis and Post-Crisis Situations (AP/CRISIS), contributing to the ILO's critical work in advancing the Decent Work agenda within crisis-affected settings.
The ILO’s engagement in crisis and post-crisis contexts stems from its foundational commitment to social justice as a pathway to sustainable peace. Against the backdrop of a global “polycrisis,” characterized by overlapping economic, social, and environmental disruptions, the ILO integrates decent work principles into responses across the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus (HDPN). The organization's approach emphasizes employment creation, enterprise recovery, and resilience-building as vital components of broader socio-economic recovery efforts.
Guided by Recommendation No. 205 on “Employment and Decent Work for Peace and Resilience,” the ILO partners with national constituents and international actors to ensure that employment priorities and labour rights are central to multilateral recovery frameworks. This includes fostering collaboration with UN agencies, financial institutions, and social partners to embed decent work into prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery strategies.
As crises increasingly challenge institutional capacities and recovery efforts, the AP/CRISIS framework has been instrumental in advocating for early ILO engagement in crisis contexts. Through coordination, technical support, and strategic partnerships, AP/CRISIS aims to position the ILO as a key contributor to integrated crisis responses that are inclusive, conflict-sensitive, and gender-transformative.
The Knowledge Management Specialist will play a pivotal role in consolidating and enhancing the ILO’s institutional knowledge on decent work in fragile settings. By developing innovative tools and fostering collaboration across teams and partners, the incumbent will ensure that lessons learned, best practices, and actionable insights are effectively shared to support evidence-based decision-making and capacity-building efforts within the HDPN.
Reporting lines: The Knowledge Management Specialist will work under the overall supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) of the Global component of the ILO-SIDA partnership on the HDPN. They will collaborate closely with the AP/CRISIS team, ITCILO, and other cross-organizational networks to fulfil the role's objectives.
