About the role
As the Director of Clinical Research, you will provide expert clinical leadership in developing clinical strategies and other clinical evidence generation activities conducted by Haleon in line with specific category/ sub-category project strategies for our global pain, respiratory and cold & flu portfolio.
This role will provide leadership and support to cross-functional global category on clinical strategy, new opportunities/business development and R&D strategies. The role will require significant interaction with a number of internal teams including but not limited to Category and regional Medical & Scientific Affairs, Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations, Statistics & Data Management as well as external groups/ individuals such as investigators/ academic researchers, Clinical Research Organizations and Health Care Practitioners to help achieve company objectives and to enhance Haleon’s reputation.
Key responsibilities
* Provide scientific and clinical development leadership for our global pain, respiratory and cold & flu portfolio ensuring that the clinical strategies are aligned, and support category innovation strategies approved by senior management.
* Work closely with the Senior Director, Clinical Research to adopt and implement novel research methodologies in line with ICH GCP, where appropriate, to generate clinical evidence for impactful claims in support of successful product launches, brand positioning and messaging.
* Overall responsibility for the design, implementation, reporting, interpretation, disclosure and publication of clinical studies detailed in research programs supporting consumer healthcare/category products for pain, respiratory and Cold & flu and to ensure these are in compliance with relevant internal and external guidance.
* Provide expert technical knowledge and leadership to the business in clinical development activities helping to ensure best practice and achievements of business objectives based on science and values.
* Contribute to medical/clinical content to regulatory submissions and other regulatory engagements and act as key scientific interface on behalf of Haleon with external parties including regulators, key experts and HCPs for clinical research activities.
* Work closely with the pre-clinical team to ensure pre-requisite data are available to progress clinical activities.
* Responsible for supporting clinical/medical due diligence for external opportunities from a clinical research point of view.
* Stay current on relevant therapeutic/ scientific literature and provide clinical expertise to facilitate preparation of clinical development and therapeutic strategies in the area of pain, respiratory and Cold & flu.
* Collaborate and co-ordinate with other groups (internal and external) to ensure that research is executed as designed, on time and within budget.
* Grow and develop team.
Qualifications and experience required
* Advanced scientific degree, PharmD, PhD, or MD.
* Expertise in clinical research methodology in this therapeutic space, as well as significant experience in clinical trial design, protocol development, and data interpretation is required. Previous experience with medical devices, cosmetic products is greatly preferred.
* Experience in leading clinical activities in multiple therapy areas and multiple projects, preferably in a Consumer Healthcare / FMCH / Pharmaceutical business with international experience. Consumer Health care experience is greatly preferred.
* Experience in leading regulatory submissions interactions.
* Excellent influencing skills, which are applied effectively at all levels of the organisation and across functional boundaries, especially at the senior management level.
* Previous experience within Pain relief, Respiratory, Cold & Flu is an advantage.
* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong teamwork.
* Line Management.
* Excels in all the skills and abilities required to lead clinical strategic thinking and possesses excellent communication skills and judgment abilities.
* Ability to oversee the work and personnel internally and to connect work in other areas across the business with their own.
* Understands the internal organization at a higher level, represents the Clinical Department to those outside the department – higher level management, regulatory agencies, other departments.
* Knowledge of Industry standards such as ICH and country specific regulatory requirements.
