Building and Zoning Director, Lake Geneva, WI (pop. 8,277). Historic, beautiful community with a charming downtown, Lake Geneva is 10 miles north of the Illinois state line, 75 miles northwest of Chicago and 45 miles southwest of Milwaukee. The City seeks an experienced municipal executive to serve as its next Building and Zoning Director.
Lake Geneva is proud of its small-town appeal, historical sites and vibrant residential neighborhoods. The City has a rich history that complements its current attractions of beaches, boating, specialty shops, galleries, golfing and other outdoor activities. The City has a vibrant business community that includes a BID and Tourism Commission. As a premier tourist destination, the city swells to three times its year-round population during the summer months and shoulder months.
The City is seeking an experienced, collaborative professional with strong communication skills. A record of accessibility to the community and planning and zoning knowledge as well as understanding of building inspections is required.
The Building and Zoning Director is in charge of the City’s day-to-day department operations, which include zoning and zoning enforcement, building inspections, and principal staff to the Plan Commission, Board of Appeals and other committees as needed.
Ideal candidates will possess:
1. A bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, political science or related field; a master’s degree is preferred but not required.
2. Increasing levels of responsibility in local government planning, zoning and building experience.
3. Leadership, managerial, and interpersonal skills to lead the department and development in a community with high customer-service expectations. Experience in short-term rentals and tourist communities a plus.
4. A team-oriented, strategic-thinking approach toward staff leadership with supervisory experience.
5. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
The Building and Zoning Director is appointed by, and reports to the City Administrator. The starting salary range is $106,457 to $114,655 DOQ, plus an excellent benefit package.
