We are looking for an experienced Outreach Manager to join our dynamic Communications and Scientific Events team. If you are enthusiastic about science and bioinformatics and want to contribute to our mission to tackle global challenges through biological and biomedical data, we want to hear from you. Outreach Manager Job information The activity rate of the position is listed as 50-100% depending on how many team members we bring on board. Ideally, we are looking to hire two part-time team members: one based in Lausanne or Geneva to focus on the French-speaking region of Switzerland, and another in Basel or Zurich to focus on the Swiss German region. Ideally each role would be at a 50% rate, allowing for strong regional focus and collaboration.
This role is therefore based in Lausanne, Geneva, Zurich or Basel, depending on the person(s) recruited with some flexibility to work from other office locations and from home.
Responsibilities Develop activities enabling the public (lay audience) to discover what is bioinformatics through the understanding of its impact on scientific discoveries and benefits for society.
Promote these activities in the French and German speaking parts of Switzerland, leveraging SIB’s national network and university-led initiatives.
Support the SIB Groups in their ambitions to develop outreach activities and the Communications team with bringing content to the media to promote SIB.
Apply for outreach grants.
Participate in workshops, public scientific fairs and school interventions.
Develop digital and printed tools such as websites (existing & new), apps, videos, games and/or leaflets, depending on the respective projects and their objectives.
Profile requirements Experience Min 5 years’ experience in a similar position, science communication, outreach activities or related activities.
Education University degree in Bioinformatics/ Computational biology or related field (min. MSc level).
Technical skills Excellent oral and written skills in English, French and/or German (ideally some Swiss German as well): capacity to translate complex concepts into engaging and impactful stories for various audiences including the general public, teachers, students and pupils.
Demonstrated ability to create and manage engaging content across major social media platforms.
Understanding of the different domains in which SIB Groups are active.
Strong understanding of communication challenges and capacity to use communication channels.
Outstanding organizational and project management skills (experience in using project management tools such as Asana or ClickUp an asset).
Command of MS office tools (Word, Excel, PPT), creative and comfortable with new technologies.
