Job Description
Position Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate and implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing philosophies in the organization. This position will study manufacturing processes and implement improvements through design of new or improved manufacturing tooling and process changes. The position requires the individual to create or make changes to manufacturing process routings as required for all products. The position will be responsible for defining manufacturing operations sequence, recommending improved manufacturing methods investigating and resolving root cause for low profit work orders as well as scrap and rework. The position will be responsible for both new applications and repairs while maintaining an efficient workflow through Processing for all product lines. The position will be actively involved with all engineering groups to provide continuous improvement solutions for both product lines as it relates to manufacturing.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Lead and coordinate the implementation of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles
2. Lead the development of manufacturing processes for new product introductions working with product engineering
3. Define, implement, monitor and report key performance metrics with action plans for resolution on a regular basis
4. Participate in cost and methods analysis
5. Work in conjunction with shop, product engineering and processing to develop improved manufacturing processes and designs for tooling and fixturing.
6. Develop and maintain plant layouts
7. Provide assistance in the capital request process as directed by the Operations Manager
8. Create and/or change existing routings for all products
9. Quote repairs and new applications as required
10. Maintain efficient work flow through Manufacturing Engineering
11. Investigate and report work center performance
12. Investigate scrap and rework instances for root causes Identify and implement solutions to resolve root cause for scrap and rework
Education: B.S. in ME, MET, or equivalent experience
Experience: Three to five years of experience as a manufacturing engineer
Mandatory Qualification Requirements:
1. Strong demonstration of ownership, accountability and organization skills
2. CAD design capabilities – 3D/2D
3. Knowledgeable in machining – CNC & manual
4. Positive can-do attitude
5. Project management skills
6. Knowledge of cost effective manufacturing processes/methods
7. Knowledge of manufacturing principles and techniques.
8. Blueprint reading and interpretations skills
9. Applicable math background and skills
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
11. Experience with the Microsoft suite of programs
12. Black/Green Belt certification
13. Experience with PSDM and pFMEA tools
14. Knowledge of the Epicor software or equivalent ERP system
15. Knowledge of fixture design and application
16. Knowledge of ISO standards and guidelines
17. Knowledge of tooling for cast iron, aluminum, forgings, tool steels, stainless steel, etc.
18. Working knowledge of the machinability of metals
19. Knowledge of Time Management
