Automation & OT Manager (all genders)
Context:
You will contribute to the development of the digital strategy and the support of the need of a new biotech site. The Biotech Development Center (BDC) is our Company ́s flagship biotech investment in line with our ambition to become The Vibrant Science and Technology Company and of our Healthcare business sector's strategy to become a Global Specialty Innovator and always better serve our patients.
The BDC is integrating analytical technologies of the future with high-tech automatized and digital laboratories, in a flexible, agile, and highly collaborative environment.
For this, you must understand the complex business need and assist in defining the solutions to support any business activities. You will drive projects on new technology, manage change control, upgrades, and provide proactive support to our key customers respecting all GMP guidelines.
Your role:
As part of the Digital Technologies team and in close collaboration with global and local Engineering, Production, IT, Digital, and Quality departments, you will lead the specification definition, implementation, qualification, and operation of process automation systems for a biopharmaceutical development and cGMP clinical production plant. You will endorse relations with external and internal IT and OT solution providers and select fit-for-purpose technologies taking into consideration emerging industry and company standards. You will manage the Automation Team responsible for automation and other production systems.
The candidate will identify, assess, and implement relevant existing and emerging industry and company standards. This role will collaborate with production equipment vendors and drive standardization of integration options. The candidate will develop, implement, and maintain IT/OT integration solutions that enable the next level of digitalization maturity in our plant and implement “Connected Plant” (vertically integrated OT Assets and IT Systems). This position will collaborate with the Global Automation team to align the project strategy with the corporate vision.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the BDC Automation Team and external partners to successfully deliver projects on time and within budget, while preparing staffing plans and coordinating on-site activities.
Design, implement, and maintain IT/OT solutions to enhance the site's digitalization and support automation projects linked to site expansion.
Own the automation and industrial control systems, ensuring their maintenance, lifecycle management, and regulatory compliance.
Drive continuous improvement of automation solutions, integrating equipment into industrial IT infrastructures and middleware/management platforms.
Strengthen OT cybersecurity through awareness, technologies, and adapted processes, while ensuring compliance with corporate security standards.
Manage deviations, investigations, and ensure timely implementation of CAPAs while meeting cGMP and EHS requirements, supporting regulatory inspections.
Develop team skills through coaching and training to ensure up-to-date expertise in automation and industrial control systems.
Collaborate with IT and Digital Technologies teams to develop the BDC digital roadmap, and with the Global Automation Team and CoE to align with enterprise standards.
Manage CAPEX/OPEX budgets, ensure reporting, and submit requested KPIs to monitor performance.
Ensure proper SLAs with suppliers, manage technical support for automation systems (Emerson, Siemens), handle escalation of critical incidents affecting PCS, and ensure and participate in an on-call support service for automation systems.
Who you are:
Graduate with a degree or equivalent qualification in industrial automation, robotics, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience in industrial automation.
Experienced with 3+ years in leadership, managing automation teams and system integrators, and operating effectively in a matrix organization.
Proficient in process control within a pharmaceutical/GMP environment, with expertise in Upstream, Downstream, Media/Buffer preparation, and Utilities (Single Use preferred).
Skilled in automation, IT/OT infrastructure, equipment connectivity, cybersecurity, and systems like PCS, DCS, SCADA, BMS, EMS, Fire Protection, CCTV, Intrusion Detection, and SIS.
Knowledgeable about cGMP guidelines, EHS requirements, industry standards (IEC-61512/ISA-95, IEC-61499/ISA-88, IEC-62443/ISA-99), and data integrity best practices.
Hands-on with Emerson DeltaV (5+ years), Siemens Desigo BMS, Siemens PLC (TIA Portal), SCADA, and ISA-95/L3 systems (Data Historian, MES, PAT, SIMCA, Discoverant).
Competent in project management with 3+ years of experience (certification preferred), and attuned to emerging trends and best industry practices.
Effective in stakeholder engagement, with strong service orientation, emotional intelligence, and technical communication skills. Fluent in English and French, with additional languages as an asset.
