Our Copper Department in the Headquarters in Baar, Switzerland is looking for a Head of Health, Safety and Environment reporting to the Head of Copper Industrial Assets. You will be working in a highly dynamic, diverse, and fast paced international environment with the opportunity to contribute to the HSE strategy. You will need to enhance the development and improvement of health, safety and environment systems, as well as driving performance to align with regulatory standards, industry best practice and internal corporate requirements.
The Role:
HSEC
1. Exhibit leadership in accordance with Glencore’s values, policies, HSE standards and relevant external requirements;
2. Monitor compliance with relevant legal & corporate requirements within area of responsibility;
3. Maintain the health, safety and environment system and oversee any specific training needs are met throughout the operation;
4. Advise, support and assist Copper’s Industrial Lead, HSE Managers, SD Leads and Asset leadership teams in the implementation of Glencore policies, standards, systems, and processes to deliver against the organisation’s strategic objectives and targets;
5. Demonstrate a highly visible on-site presence and commitment to Glencore’s Values;
6. Foster a pro-active approach to health, safety and environmental management by collaborating with cross-functional leadership teams from Group, Departments, and Copper assets;
7. Promote a performance-driven and accountable workplace by maintaining a constant and consistent focus on HSE, through delivery of the Copper HSE strategy.

1. Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with key Group, Department and asset stakeholders, including external clients/advisers/consultants/contractors.
2. Provide strong leadership to drive a high-performance culture, role modelling and reinforcing the behaviours that will underpin the success of the operation.
3. Appropriately share information in an open and timely manner through presentations and general communications to relevant stakeholders;
4. Actively participate in talent management and create the depth of necessary skills for current and future people requirements across the health, safety and environmental fields;

Operational Performance
1. Strategy
1. Actively contribute to the development of the Group HSEC&HR strategy, HSE projects and initiatives;
2. Lead the development of the Copper Department HSE strategy, including establishing and monitoring performance KPIs. Support Copper assets to deliver HSE initiatives against the corporate and department HSE strategy;
3. Assist the Copper Industrial Lead with intervention initiatives and targeted HSE programs, including critical control management and visible field leadership programs.
2. Risk Management
1. Oversee the Copper HSE Risk Register. Monitor effectiveness of the controls through site visits and provide relevant updates and information to Copper industrial leadership;
2. Support Copper assets in the development of HSE risk assessments, including catastrophic hazard bowties; environmental baseline, risk and impact assessments; and health impacts, risks and needs assessments.
3. Management Systems
1. Develop, implement and manage Copper’s HSE Management Systems (Policies, protocols, procedures, guidelines). Support Copper assets to align with corporate and department system requirements;
2. Ensure robust systems for reporting, investigation, notification and recording of incidents and ‘near misses’ are in place, including sharing of lessons learnt.
4. Assurance
1. Provide assurance to the Copper and Group industrial management teams on the adequacy and effectiveness of systems and processes that are in place to mitigate HSE risks. Support and monitor progress against actions arising from HSE assurance activities.
2. Develop the Copper HSE assurance plan, aligned to corporate requirements. Support copper assets to plan and execute effective assurance to drive risk ownership and performance.
5. Department/ Region/ Site Support
1. Provide high quality HSE advice and technical support to the business;
2. Provide support in high consequence or high potential consequence incident investigation and share learnings across the business;
3. Represent the Copper Department on technical working groups and Glencore on external industry forums, as appropriate;
4. Manage or monitor progress of Copper HSE projects;
5. Develop and manage the Copper HSE budget and monitor performance against budget.
Experience:
1. Degree Qualified (Health, Safety or Environmental discipline) and sound knowledge/training in relevant international standards.
2. Minimum of 12 years relevant experience and familiarity in the resource or heavy industry sector.
3. International experience in multinational organisations.
4. Both strong operational and corporate experience.
5. Understanding of international standards such as ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 19001 and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards.
6. Sound analytical, report and standard writing skills.
7. Experience planning and implementing assurance activities.
8. Strong communication and relationship building skills.
