MET International AG (METI) was established in 2010 to consolidate and develop MET Group’s international natural gas sales and purchase portfolio, as well as to establish a trading arm for commodity lines.
METI is responsible for providing highly competitive supply structures to its gas and power sales affiliates, optimizing its power generation assets, managing the LNG portfolio, and trading around international positions.
As the Lead Short-term Power Trader, you will take a leading role in formulating MET Group’s short-term power market presence via MET International’s trading floor. You will lead and manage the short-term power commercial activities, traders, quantitative and fundamental analysts, and system developers toward the vision of managing MET Group’s European asset portfolio (both equity and serviced) on a centralized platform.
Job Description
* Calibrate and execute trading strategies in day-ahead and intraday power markets to maximize profitability.
* Monitor market fundamentals, price drivers, and interconnection flows to identify trading opportunities.
* Optimize the asset portfolio on the short-term time horizon by identifying opportunities along the value chain of DAM, IDA, IDC, and imbalance markets.
* Collaborate with forecasting and analytics teams to refine price models and market predictions.
* Contribute to the development of the short-term trading team by mentoring junior traders and enhancing processes.
* Guide the system development and cooperation with other functional teams from the commercial angle, such as interconnected forecasting systems (meteorology, network congestions, system state, imbalance market analysis), algorithmic trading, commercial logic of aggregators, etc.
Qualifications
* Degree in a quantitative discipline (mathematics, physics, engineering).
* 5+ years of experience in power spot trading, with a strong track record in day-ahead and intraday markets.
* In-depth knowledge of European power markets, including market rules and imbalance price formulation mechanisms in multiple jurisdictions.
* Strong analytical skills and proficiency in tools like Python, R, or SQL for data analysis and forecasting.
* Knowledge of the upcoming regulatory changes (MARI, PICASSO).
