Job Description:
Our client - a global energy trading company. They are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Power Trader to join their proprietary trading team in Switzerland. This role is critical to their expansion in the European energy markets. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of power markets, a proven track record in proprietary trading, and a strong entrepreneurial mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Analysis and Strategy Development:
* Conduct in-depth analysis of European power markets, including supply/demand fundamentals, weather patterns, regulatory changes, and market flows.
* Develop and implement trading strategies to capitalize on market opportunities across intraday, day-ahead, and long-term timeframes.
Trading Execution:
* Execute proprietary trading strategies in the power markets, including spot, futures, and options.
* Optimize positions across multiple exchanges and trading platforms.
* Actively monitor and adjust trading positions to maximize profitability while managing risk.
* Maintain disciplined risk management practices, adhering to defined limits and company policies.
* Collaborate with the risk management team to assess and mitigate exposure.
Collaboration and Leadership:
* Work closely with analysts, meteorologists, and other traders to share insights and improve trading performance.
* Mentor junior traders and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
* Regularly report PnL performance, trading activity, and market insights to the senior management team.
Requirements:
Experience:
* Minimum 5+ years of experience in proprietary power trading within European energy markets.
* Demonstrable track record of generating consistent profitability.
Market Knowledge:
* Expertise in European power markets, including intraday, day-ahead, and balancing markets.
* Familiarity with key market drivers, such as weather forecasts, fuel prices, and regulatory developments.
Technical Skills:
* Proficiency in trading platforms and market exchanges (e.g., EPEX, Nord Pool, ICE, etc.).
* Advanced skills in data analysis tools (Python, R, Excel) and trading algorithms.
Risk and Analytical Mindset:
* Strong understanding of risk management practices and tools.
* Analytical thinker with the ability to quickly assess market opportunities and adapt to changing conditions.
Education:
* Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) are a plus.
Soft Skills:
* Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to work independently and proactively.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* High level of resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
