Main Purpose:
We are looking for a Fuel Oil Analyst to support our global fuel oil trading team, providing in-depth market analysis, building and updating supply and demand models, providing value-add market insights, and analyzing high-frequency indicators of market dynamics.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
* Prior experience in commodity research, specifically in Oil analytics. Direct knowledge of Fuel oil markets is strongly preferred.
* Analytical mindset and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis on providing proactive insights that have tradeable value.
* Experience using trade data, data visualization tools and statistical data modeling software.
* Highly competent in communicating complex concepts and good presentation skills.
* Strong technical skills. Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint are a requirement.
* High preference for candidates with programming experience and a solid understanding of database concepts (Python and SQL preferred; R, MATLAB or VBA beneficial).
* Ability to work independently and proactively to deliver timely results.
* Fluency in English. The role is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
* Fluency in another foreign language a plus.
Key Responsibilities
* Collating, analysing and interpreting data to produce commodity market insights.
* Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on fuel oil markets, including supply/demand dynamics, pricing trends, arbitrage opportunities, and regulatory developments across major global trading hubs.
* Build and maintain supply and demand models, and develop detailed market reports, presentations, and trade recommendations to inform trading strategies.
* Provide trade flow analysis and other ad-hoc analysis to support decision-making by senior traders and management.
* Collaborate closely with traders, operations teams, and other analysts to identify trading opportunities, monitor positions, and manage risk exposure.
* Build and maintain proprietary models and tools for market analysis, forecasting, and scenario planning.
* Stay up-to-date on industry news, market intelligence, and competitor activities to provide a competitive edge.
* Establish strong relationships with key market participants, including refiners, suppliers, and customers, to gather market intelligence.
Competencies
* Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.
* Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in commodity analysis or a related analytical role, preferably with exposure to fuel oil/refined products markets.
* Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data sets and extract meaningful insights.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
* Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL) and Microsoft Office suite.
* Knowledge of commodity trading fundamentals, risk management principles, and financial modeling.
* Strong intrinsic interest in financial markets, geopolitical developments and a sound understanding of economic theory and cycles.
* Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
