Mechanical Design Engineer

Your Responsibilities:
The Handling Engineering Group in our Engineering Department is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work on handling issues and requests in the CERN accelerator complex.
We support physicists by transporting their equipment, developing tooling and machines, and creating detailed sequences. Our team has the opportunity to see our ideas come to life during site visits.
We serve the entire CERN community and can be called upon to intervene in any part of our accelerator and experiment facility.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will oversee the transport and handling aspects of the High Luminosity LHC project, including:
* Creating 3D models of environments and handling operations using CATIA
* Proposing custom solutions for various handling and transport problems
* Designing and defining handling tooling
* Monitoring suppliers during the manufacturing phase
* Managing projects, including planning, resources, and implementation of proposed tooling and methods with handling teams
Please note that this position requires working on-site.
Required Skills:
* Proficient knowledge of 3D drafting software (Catia, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.)
* Ability to create mechanical calculation notes for safety stakeholders
* Proficiency in mechanical calculations with Ansys
* Fluency in English; proficiency in French is an asset
* Less than two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with a Bachelor's or Master's degree as highest qualification
* No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract

Contract duration: 24 months, with possible extension up to 36 months
This role involves:
* Work in Radiation Areas
* Interventions in underground installations
* A valid driving license
* Night, Sunday, and holiday work when required by organizational needs
