MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The High School Principal is a highly qualified and experienced educator who will advocate for the high school in all school and public events. His/her pedagogical skills, commitment, enthusiasm and integrity will enable him/her to act as a role model to colleagues. He/she leads a team of teachers, administrators and support staff in compliance with the school’s guiding statements, policies and externally applied standards. His/her inter-personal and communication skills will aid dialogue with colleagues throughout the school and the community at large.
The position is to be filled in the summer of 2025.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of High School Principal oversees the high school operation, to include:
* Strategic goal setting and management in alignment with NAE and school policies, the school’s vision, mission and RISE values, the school’s strategic plan, and with standards imposed by external quality assurance systems (NAE, NEASC/CIS, IBO).
* Working as a member of the Academic Team and the Management Team.
* Staff recruitment, induction, practice, appraisal and professional development.
* A focus on academics by leading and managing:
o Programmes offered (determined in liaison with the Director General).
o Student learning, by ensuring alignment of practice with the school’s
o Aspirational definitions of Excellence, High-Quality Learning and Effective Teaching, and of Global Citizenship
o High School teaching and administrative staff, including the Deputy Principals.
o Heads of Department, through the Deputy Principal (Academic).
o Exam Coordinators (IBDP, IBCP, AP, IGCSE).
* A focus on pastoral issues by leading and managing:
o Pastoral Heads and Advisors, through the Deputy Principal (Pastoral).
o Student discipline.
* Oversight of:
o Student Support Systems: University Advisors, Learning Support, Counselling, National Honors Society (NHS) and Student Government.
o Operational Tasks: Timetable, Option Choices, Cover, Supervision duty assignments etc.
* Teaching a class.
* Relations with wider community (Parents, Boarding, other sections of school).
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Skills and competencies
A good team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, working well with colleagues in all school sections and departments. Highly organised, flexible, patient, resistant to stress, having a sense of humour, taking initiative and responsibility and relating well to staff and students in all aspects of the job function, while being conscientious, polite and exhibiting the highest standards of professionalism at all times.
Qualifications
Teaching Qualification, Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Education are required. A qualification in International Education is preferred.
Experience
You should have experience in high school teaching within one or more examination programmes, along with proven leadership experience in an educational setting. Prior experience as Deputy Principal or higher is required. Additionally, it is preferred that you have experience teaching IBDP, IBCP, and/or AP classes. A fluency in French is an asset.
