Our Controller is responsible for managing the intercompany accounting between our 2 entities, building financial operations infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This role offers the opportunity to create and improve financial processes, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the company’s long-term success.
The ideal candidate is an experienced professional, proactive self-starter, and strong problem-solver.
Responsibilities
* Oversee accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, reflecting any C-Corp-specific adjustments (e.g., stockholders’ equity, corporate tax provisions).
* Coordinate with external tax advisors and/or preparers on the corporate return (Form 1120), ensure accurate calculation of deferred tax assets/liabilities, and manage multi-state filings.
* If audited or reviewed financials are required (for investors or lenders), serve as the point person for external auditors, ensuring the company’s books and records are audit-ready.
* Implement a “SOX Lite” framework for internal financial controls as preparation for further scale in ‘25 and ‘26.
* Build and maintain a robust control environment (segregation of duties, approval workflows) to reduce financial errors and fraud risks.
* Coordinate closely with any board committees (e.g., Audit Committee) to align governance processes with stakeholder expectations.
Intercompany Accounting
* Establish and maintain consistent, long-term policies for allocating costs, revenue, and services among multiple entities.
* Ensure robust arm’s-length documentation for all intercompany transactions to avoid regulatory scrutiny and support lender requirements.
* Regularly update processes and controls as the organizational structure evolves over time (e.g., new subsidiaries, future acquisitions).
Equity & Compensation Oversight
* Ensure authorized shares, different share classes, and equity compensation grants are accurately tracked in both the general ledger and the cap table.
* Oversee 409A valuations (if issuing options) and ensure proper expense recognition under ASC 718, maintaining compliance and clarity for employees and investors.
Referral Fee Reconciliation
* Maintain a clear, standardized process for logging all incoming referral fees, matching each payment to the corresponding Referral Partner.
* Work closely with Referral Partners to confirm metrics (e.g., leads or conversions) that trigger referral fees, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and minimizing potential disputes.
* Lead the evaluation and implementation of software solutions or processes that automate fee tracking and reconciliation, reducing manual errors and enhancing reporting accuracy.
Additional Duties
* Participate in any additional tasks assigned by leadership related to finance or accounting.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* Minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting or finance, with demonstrated career progression.
* Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation strongly preferred, with a strong understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting principles.
* Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Proven ability to take initiative and solve problems independently.
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
