Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement (6 months). Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.
The reliability and thermal performance of wide band gap semiconductor modules and discrete packages is currently under scientific investigation. Measuring the thermal resistance of different design together with analyzing the failure mechanisms after power cycling are the main objectives of this internship. The reliability facts and figures will then be extrapolated from the experimental results to serve the application case and possibly write a publication.

This role is contributing to the Corporate Research Center, Industrial Solutions department in the Power Electronics System group in Baden-Dättwil, Switzerland.
You will be mainly accountable for:
* Support technology development and research on reliability of power electronics modules
* Perform thermal resistance measurements on devices mounted on different printed circuit boards
* Support power cycling lifetime testing on selected baseplate modules
* Characterize the devices before and after aging, supervise the test setups and help with the failure analysis
* Tasks in related reliability topics at package level include SAM, SEM-EDX cross section and microscopy images

Qualifications for the role
* You currently pursue a degree (advanced Bachelor or Master) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related subject
* You possess knowledge of programming skills (preferably LabVIEW / MATLAB / Python)
* You are captivated by data analysis tools and statistics
* You are at ease communicating in English
* You are engaged in experimental laboratory work and enjoy working in interdisciplinary fields
* You are a self-organized team player with the ability to work independently and as a part of a team
* Experience with FE-modeling is advantageous
* Non-EU/non-EFTA citizens, please note that a certificate from your university, showing that an internship is a mandatory part of your studies, is required for the visa application
