As part of the continuing global effort to reduce the use of highly hazardous plant protection products (PPP) in agricultural production, CABI has launched an open-access CABI BioProtection Portal (BPP) (https://bioprotectionportal.com/). The BPP is the largest, free global resource for biological pest management. It features a searchable directory of nationally registered biocontrol and biopesticide products alongside comprehensive information to help agricultural advisors and growers to source and effectively use sustainable natural products within integrated pest management programmes.
The CABI BioProtection Portal was launched in 2020 and presently covers over 47 countries. CABI ensures that the data on the portal is current, and as we expand our coverage to new countries, the volume of data requiring regular review and updates continues to grow. To meet this challenge, CABI is looking for someone who shares our commitment to supporting global sustainability efforts by increasing awareness and adoption of bioprotection products in agriculture to join our Data Management team.
Position Overview
The BPP’s Data Management team provides the subject-matter and editorial expertise for the collation and management of the data underlying the CABI BioProtection Portal. As part of the Data Management team, and under the direction of the Data Manager and the Portal Project Manager, the Content Editor will be responsible for:
1. Obtaining permissions from national regulators to use their data.
2. Collecting data for new countries and ensuring it aligns with the BPP systems.
3. Contributing to regular maintenance of product data for existing countries.
Qualifications
The candidate must have:
1. Existing knowledge about the broad range of products available as biological controls.
2. An understanding of the regulatory requirements and label specifics.
3. A wide interest in biological crop protection and relevant work experience.
4. The ability to plan and deliver work on a cyclical basis.
5. Strong attention to detail.
6. The ability to build positive relationships with people from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, including representing the BPP in communication with regulators.
