About the role
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our publishing team as a Publishing Assistant on a fixed-term basis (one-year maternity leave cover). The role of Publishing Assistant is wide-ranging and essential to the smooth running of our journal portfolios. Duties include managing responses to external Editors, maintaining internal systems and processes, and generating reports for publishers.
Role Responsibilities
* Managing and monitoring invoices and payment requests
* Inputting and maintaining relevant journal metadata to systems
* Handle general enquiries from within Springer Nature and from external partners, esp. external editors and authors
* Ad hoc journal and team administration
* Liaising with Editorial and Publishing Assistants in other publishing divisions and units to share best practices and propose improvements to workflows, operations and communications
* Contributing to the wider Springer Nature Journals group by taking part in cross-departmental projects and initiatives, with respect to publication ethics, data transparency, Open Access policy, and other industry developments
* Manage and support journal websites - general updates, featured content, etc.
* Manage ongoing and ad hoc editorial and publishing projects under direction of publishing editors
* Support the publishers editors in promoting journals and articles
* Develop strong working relationships with colleagues across all departments
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
* Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
* Experience working in a fast-paced office environment is preferred
* Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management experience
* Strong verbal and written communication (English) skills
* Exceptional organizational skills and interpersonal skills
* Ability to prioritize in a high-volume environment, meet deadlines and work on your own initiative as well as part of a team
* Ability to demonstrate good publishing business awareness and the ability to learn quickly
* Keen proofreading skills and a sharp eye for detail
* Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
* Flexibility and ability to work in a multicultural environment
