This position is located in the Secretariat of the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Director of the Division on Globalization and Development Strategies reports to the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD.
Responsibilities
The Director will oversee UNCTAD's work on globalization, the global economy, and related financial issues. This includes developing policy, formulating, and implementing the work programme of the Division on Globalization and Development Strategies.
1. Directs and manages UNCTAD's work on globalization, the global economy, and related financial issues.
2. Plans the annual Trade and Development Report in collaboration with other Directors.
3. Oversees the preparation of the Division's inputs to other major reports of UNCTAD.
4. Conducts policy clearance of documents prepared by the Division and ensures high-quality standards.
5. Reports to intergovernmental bodies on budget and programme performance or on programmatic and substantive issues.
6. Maintains contacts with delegations and liaises with senior government officials to provide advice and coordination on policy issues.
7. Plans and supervises the substantive servicing of intergovernmental deliberations at the Trade and Development Board and the General Assembly.
8. Ensures that programmed activities are carried out in a timely fashion and coordinates the work of the Division with other UNCTAD Divisions and entities.
9. Oversees the recruitment of staff for the Division, taking due account of geographical and gender balance and other institutional values.
10. Manages, guides, develops, and trains staff under his/her supervision.
11. Leads the Division's programme of work with respect to technical assistance and capacity building.
12. Ensures the development and mainstreaming of the RBM based results framework for the Division.
13. Performs other related duties as requested by the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD.

Education
An advanced university degree in economics or a related social sciences field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job-Specific Qualification
A third-level university degree in economics or related social sciences field is desirable.
Work Experience
At least fifteen years of progressively responsible experience dealing with international economic development issues is required. At least five years of experience managing complex programmes of work and teams is also required.
