We are looking for a business-savvy, inspiring and communicative Business Unit Leader for our Business Unit Sustainable Energy.
Your mission
As a Vice-President and member of the Executive Management Board, the Business Unit Leader is responsible for the strategic and operational performance of our Business Unit Sustainable Energy. He/she ensures a very good relationship with the economic, academic, industrial and all internal stakeholders. He/she defines the annual objectives for the Business Unit in relation to the global objectives of CSEM.
Your responsibilities
Strategic
Define and implement the strategy of the Business Unit
Approve the research programs and activities
Support the negotiation and approval of contracts with the industrial and academic partners
Supervise the project acquisition pipeline and maintain good relationships with all external and internal partners (including across Business Units)
Follow-up of the project and technology portfolio, setting in place the right conditions for successful execution and customer satisfaction
Technological
Manage academic relationships (in particular with EPFL and other key stakeholders)
Support and approve the technology roadmap in Sustainable Energy together with the members of the Research & Business Development Group
Coordinate and follow up the research and development of the technology platforms in the following Focus Areas: solar cells and modules, integrated and lightweight photovoltaics, batteries and digital energy
Participate actively in the CSEM Research Committee and ensure the internal coordination of CSEM’s sustainable energy activities
Coordinate and follow-up with the external and internal stakeholders
Financial
Define, approve and monitor the budget, finances and project portfolio of the Business Unit in close collaboration with the deputy of the Business Unit.
Plan and approve all investments of the Business Unit
Marketing & Communication
Ensure the visibility of CSEM, and more specifically of the Sustainable Energy activities
Develop and promote the Sustainable Energy activities through conferences, exhibitions, workshops, publications, and articles in collaboration
Ensure the communication within the Business Unit
Quality Management/ISO
Ensure the Quality System according to the ISO Standards in collaboration with the QM Manager
Human Resources and Management
Lead and manage a group of about 8 managers and a staff of approximately 90 experts in the Business Unit
Define annual goals and ensure the development of the people in the BU
Maintain a motivating and balanced high-tech working environment
In collaboration with the VP-HR, manage the staffing (incl. hirings, equity, evolution, trainings)
Approve HR tasks (engagement, dismissal, salaries)
Organize regular management and BU meetings to exchange operational information
Supervise the operation of the Research & Business Development Group, the Quality Manager, and IP manager
Delegate operational tasks to the Deputy BU Leader and Group Leaders
Your profile
Knowledge
Higher education (min. Master in Engineering and/or in Sustainable Energy)
PhD, MBA is a plus
Languages: Fluent in English and French, German is a plus
Proven track record in one or more of the following technology domains is a must: Battery systems, electrical grid, advanced solar cells materials & devices, solar modules, digital energy solutions, coatings for energy devices, advanced manufacturing.
Know-how
Knowledge of the industrial and academic worlds
Min. 10 to 15 years of experience in the energy domain and/or industrial experience in related fields.
Experience in managing and motivating teams of engineers and technical experts
Ability to understand and drive all financial aspects with the financial controller
Experience in people management
