The project
This position involves research within the reFuel.ch project, which aims to develop pathways for introducing sustainable fuels and platform chemicals into the Swiss energy market, using interdisciplinary approaches. The project also seeks to promote trade and investment in these chemicals through innovative legal and economic solutions.
The doctoral candidate will explore legal and policy opportunities and constraints for investments in SFPC production, focusing on international law aspects of their production, transport, storage, and trade.
The Ph.D. Position
Prof. Ilaria Espa (http://usi.to/y6o), Associate Professor of International Economic Law, seeks a PhD student for the reFuel.ch project, starting around September 2025. The position is funded for three years and offers the possibility to pursue doctoral studies at a partner university specializing in international economic law.

Candidate profile
* Masters of Laws (cum laude)
* Strong interest in international economic law, especially trade law, climate change, and energy law, with willingness to undertake doctoral research in these areas
* Self-organized and autonomous working style
* Proficiency in at least two languages, including Italian and English
Contract terms
Admission to the PhD program is competitive, based on academic background and potential. The position can be full-time or part-time, funded internally, with salary levels aligned with Swiss National Science Foundation standards. Willingness to travel within Switzerland and abroad is required.
