Secondary School Teaching Assistant hold an important role at ICS as they guide our older students on their path to IB exams, university, and future career choices. They have the unique ability to promote learning and personal growth by building on students’ natural talents as they mature through the years and gradually recognize their strengths.
Our Secondary Teaching Assistants must demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a collaborative culture and a supportive environment within the school. They need to have a thorough understanding of the social and emotional dimensions of learning and encourage students to share their joys and concerns knowing they will always be supported. Naturally, all our teaching Assistants need to ensure their practice inside and outside the classroom is in harmony with the educational philosophy of the school.
Job Summary
The library supports the educational objectives of the school. Every member of the ICS community needs access to an organized collection of resources and services appropriate to its educational, informational, recreational, and cultural needs and interests. The ICS library provides a conducive environment where students and staff enjoy working independently, collaboratively, and productively. The principal expectation of the library assistant is to support and improve this facility. This position is a full-time allocation.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Maintain a welcoming atmosphere in an aesthetically pleasing environment that is conducive to productive use of the library.
2. Enthusiastically instruct students in the proper use of the library.
3. Operate and maintain a variety of library center equipment including audiovisual equipment and computers.
4. Catalogue, process the library collection; shelve materials, update catalogues, indexes, and lists.
5. Create library exhibits including display boards, posters and other appropriate library signage.
6. Actively contribute to the selection and ordering of library books and materials, research publishers for best prices; prepare purchase requisitions and track orders.
7. Manage and coordinate subscriptions.
8. Coordinate library schedules with staff members.
9. Actively participate in staff and department meetings.
10. Contribute to a positive school climate of collegiality and collaboration.
The successful candidate will have:
* Experience working in a school library or library-related, in schools with secondary and high-school-age students.
* Open-minded, flexible, enjoy working independently but seeking advice when needed, team-oriented, and willing to learn.
* Empathetic towards teachers and enjoy working with teachers, students, and parents.
* A positive communicator with a sense of humour.
* Take initiative and think outside the box.
* Comfortable with technology and willing to try new ideas.
* Empathetic to International Education and the International Baccalaureate.
