Gravis Robotics builds technology that turns heavy construction machines into intelligent and autonomous robots. Our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control lets one operator safely conduct a fleet of earthmoving machines with super-human productivity. Building upon over a decade of academic experience honing the cutting edge of large-scale robotics, we continue to innovate as we rapidly position ourselves in a trillion dollar industry through active deployments with market leaders.
About the Job
We are looking for a mechanical engineer to own the mechanical design of the Gravis hardware package that turns regular excavators into awesome, autonomous machines. You will work with engineering teams in Zurich & abroad to design, engineer, prototype, test, refine, manufacture, and implement custom hardware that enables our AI to control and assist with the safe operation of heavy machines. You are capable of working both independently and with others, and are intrinsically driven to solve challenging applied problems with a rigorous attention to detail and an explorative imagination.
Responsibilities
* Own mechanical design of components in our next-generation of vehicle integration package
* Develop custom mechanical components - rugged, waterproof, manufacturable designs such as sensing packages, vehicle interfaces, computing units, mounting hardware, and wire harnesses
* Troubleshoot multidisciplinary engineering challenges (Waterproofing, Optical testing, RF testing, etc.), implementing innovative and practical solutions in a rapid development environment
* Develop test fixtures & manufacturing bring-up plans as your designs move from prototype & low-volume production into mass production
* Partner with the electrical & software teams to define, prototype, manufacture, and test wiring harnesses to be used inside our units and for integrating with machines
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical components into larger systems
* Create and maintain documentation, including design specifications, test procedures, wiring diagrams, system architectures
Requirements
* University degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
* Strong expertise in product development and manufacturing technologies
* Highly proficient in 3D CAD for mechanical engineering (preferably Solidworks/Fusion 360)
* Experience with design for manufacturing
* Understanding of IP ratings & material selection in harsh environmental conditions
* Ability to verify and troubleshoot mechanical systems
* Good command of English, both written and spoken
* We are looking for both junior and senior level engineers and encouraging everyone to apply
Beneficial Experience
* Experience with mechatronic hardware systems
* Knowledge in product development and manufacturing technologies
* Experience with robotics and robotics middleware (e.g. ROS/ROS2)
* Structural & thermal simulation experience
This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and versatile team, and to be part of a young startup that will revolutionize heavy construction. You will get the chance to apply your skills to critical tasks, while learning from a team of world-class robotic engineers. Gravis Robotics offers a fair market salary and an excellent working location in the city of Zurich.
