About the Role
As a Senior Sanctions Compliance Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring adherence to global and local sanctions frameworks, collaborating closely with Compliance teams, business stakeholders, and regulatory authorities. Your expertise will help strengthen Vontobel’s commitment to responsible financial practices while fostering a culture of compliance and risk awareness.
What would your role be?
Provide expert guidance to the Wealth Management Business and Compliance officers on operational sanctions topics, including account openings, lifecycle events (e.g., changes in circumstances), payments, securities transactions, and other relevant operations.
Monitor, assess, and review potential sanctions risks, including negative media screening, PEP alerts, and sanction-related transaction monitoring.
Engage with Swiss authorities (e.g., SECO), ensuring timely reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Stay informed on evolving global and local sanctions frameworks, analyzing potential risks and advising on best practices.
Build strong partnerships across Compliance and Business teams to ensure smooth and effective client due diligence processes.
Implement and refine procedures to maintain high compliance standards and ensure an effective, end-to-end sanctions control process.
What are we looking for?
University degree in law, economics, political science, or a related field.
Proven experience in sanctions compliance management within financial services, a law firm, or a regulatory environment.
Strong knowledge of sanctions laws, anti-terrorism regulations, and AML standards.
Expertise in risk management principles and controls.
Familiarity with financial products and transaction processing systems (e.g., Avaloq) is a plus.
Fluency in English; German proficiency is an advantage.
What do we offer?
We embrace agile principles, fostering innovation, trust, and adaptability in how we work. We support your career growth, offering training, certifications, and professional development opportunities. Collaboration and transparency are at the core of our culture—we work as One Vontobel, sharing knowledge and skills across teams. We offer flexible work arrangements, including remote work options and diverse benefits, along with a first-class lunch menu when working on-site.
We are looking for talented people, not just a CV that ticks all the boxes. Even if you do not have absolutely everything we have asked for, if this role sounds like a good fit for you, we encourage you to apply.
At Vontobel, you are building better futures for our clients and society, as well as for yourself. By 2030, we want to be known as one of the leading and most trusted global investment firms. We have 2,300+ engaged professionals, based in 27 locations globally and headquartered in Zurich.
We are both majority family-owned and publicly listed. Our capacity for long-term focus, on topics such as sustainability, is underpinned by the security of the family’s 100-year commitment. Driven by an ownership mindset, you can unlock your potential and translate insights into opportunities. We are hiring talented individuals who are determined to deliver in a changing world and who come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
