PhD in Electrical Modelling of Perovskite Solar Cells
You like to contribute to cutting-edge solar cell research by understanding how nanoscale processes influence device performance? Then have a look at this project!
School: School of Engineering
Starting date: 1st of February or by agreement
Your PhD work is embedded into a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The topic of this project is to develop numerical simulations for perovskite semiconductor devices that allow describing the results of AFM-based nanoscale characterization. The goal is to clearly relate nanoscale features to device performance. You would focus on the modelling part of both devices and nanoscale measurements in close collaboration with a PhD student, who takes over the experimental part of the project.
Potential tasks are:
1. Using numerical device modeling software to simulate the optoelectronic response of solar cells
2. Developing a more-dimensional model taking into account the nanostructure of films and the geometry of the AFM experiment
3. Optoelectronic and spectroscopic characterization on the device and nanoscale
4. Identifying and formulating open research questions
5. Presenting and publishing your research results
Minimum Requirements:
* Excellent Master degree in physics, electrical engineering, computational science, or similar
* Experience in numerical modeling of semiconductor devices during Master thesis or research project (ideal)
* Solid background in semiconductor physics or high motivation to obtain it
* Commitment to research with high intrinsic motivation for pursuing a PhD
* Enjoy working in a team while also being able to carry out tasks independently
* Good communication and English language skills
Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW is one of Switzerland's largest multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences, with over 14,000 students and 3,400 faculty and staff.
In the Organic Electronics and Photovoltaics research group at the Institute of Computational Physics (ICP), we investigate the physics of solar cells and further optoelectronic devices using innovative characterization and modelling approaches. We perform cutting-edge fundamental and applied research in a young team of motivated scientists.
ZHAW is committed to gender-mixed and diverse teams in order to promote equality, diversity, and innovation.
