Job Description
Your responsibilities include contributing to the development and optimization of the ACTS toolkit, an experiment-agnostic track reconstruction software designed for high performance in the HL-LHC era and beyond.
The ACTS toolkit is integral to the ATLAS experiment's strategy for offline and Event Filter track reconstruction for Run 4 and future operations. Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, optimize, and maintain ACTS-based track finding, fitting, and vertex reconstruction software.
* Adapt and fine-tune the software for the ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) to ensure optimal performance.
* Enhance the computational and physics performance of ACTS, supporting the ATLAS HL-LHC physics program.
* Manage parts of the development and deployment processes as a core member of the ACTS development team.
* Provide advisory and supervision support to junior colleagues within ATLAS and collaborating institutions.
Your Profile
You should have proven experience with modern C++ programming techniques, understanding of track reconstruction concepts, algorithms, and their efficient implementation in High-Energy Physics (HEP) experiments. Proficiency in software development tools and practices within a Linux environment is also required.
In addition, you should be able to communicate opinions, ideas, and suggestions convincingly, clearly, and in a logical and structured manner, staying on topic.
Eligibility Criteria
* You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
* You have a professional background in Experimental Physics (or a related field) and meet one of the following criteria:
o a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
o or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
* You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
