About Us
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is a world-leading particle physics laboratory. We push forward the limits of technology to provide innovative research tools to the physics and engineering worldwide community.
Our Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) Group provides specific engineering solutions for CERN, combining mechanical design, fabrication facilities, and material science support.
The position you are applying for is located in our Main Workshop, which masters a wide range of machining technologies and performs critical production for the CERN Accelerator Complex and Experiments.
Your Responsibilities
* Perform CAM/CNC programming (3 to 5 axis machining) of various mechanical components including parts for accelerators and detectors.
* Provide corresponding technical assistance and support to workshop technicians, ensuring smooth operation of machining centres.
* Participate in developing and proposing innovating machining strategies, to enhance efficiency of processes and quality of components, including design of machining fixtures and tools with CAD software.
* Participate in the follow-up of contracts related to the life of the machining workshop (maintenance of cutting fluids, procurement of equipment, of machining centres, etc).
* Provide documentation and reporting: formalize your work by preparing technical reports detailing machining procedures and approaches, to ensure the preservation and transfer of the section's expertise.
Your Profile
* You have experience with 3D and 2D technical drawings and ISO GPS tolerancing.
* You know CAD/CAM tools, preferably WorkNC and CATIA V5.
* You have experience in application of mechanical fabrication methods, with a strong emphasis on machining processes.
* You know metallic and non-metallic materials.
* A knowledge of mechanical fabrication in the following domains would be a strong asset: pressure vessels, vacuum chambers, cryogenics.
What We Offer
* A monthly stipend ranging between CHF 5196 and CHF 5716 (net of tax).
* Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
* Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
* 30 days of paid leave per year.
* On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
