The Global Communications Group is the central Forum team dedicated to communications with the public, media, stakeholders and staff in relation to the Forum’s mission. Through multiple channels, the Group is responsible for communicating the work of the Forum and its constituents, reaching, growing, engaging and inspiring diverse and interested audiences.

The Global Communications Group is composed of four key functions: Communication Strategy and Coordination, Public Engagement, Media Engagement, and Stakeholder and Staff Engagement. The Digital Editor is embedded within the Forum’s Written and Audio team, based in the Public Engagement function, where you will be expected to generate a steady stream of story ideas in alignment with the overall Group strategy.
We are looking for a digital editor with razor-sharp writing skills and excellent editorial judgement to coordinate and create content that showcases the work of the Forum, and raises the profile of thought leadership from business leaders, government officials and Forum experts across the Forum’s online channels.
You will have a special knowledge of and experience in covering international economics and its impact on the world. You are excited by the idea of translating the complexities behind major global challenges, extracting insights from experts, and writing pieces that will engage public audiences with relatable and newsworthy content. You will be comfortable extracting stories from datasets, transforming numbers into narratives and interviewing our in-house economists. You should feel at ease taking on content creation across a broad range of topics - everything from new growth models to climate action and the ethics of AI.
Reporting Lines & Interactions
This role reports to the Head of Written and Audio Content, works closely with other Digital Editors, as well as multimedia colleagues in the Global Communications Group and liaises with expert teams, economists and thought leaders across the Forum.
Breakdown of main responsibilities
1. Writing and Editing: Develop compelling economics-focused written content for the Forum’s owned media channels, specifically the website. Write, edit and publish content, ensuring the messaging is newsworthy and relevant, aligned with Forum priorities and engages a wide audience.
2. Ideation and digital content curation: Work closely with audio and video teams to help co-ordinate the production of multimedia economics-related content for the Forum's online platforms, including podcasts and videos. Curate content from various sources to ensure a diverse and engaging mix of topics and stories in multimedia formats.
3. Data storytelling: Use data visualization tools and work with the organisation’s data scientists to bring their economics research to life with creative, informative and visually appealing data storytelling.
4. Project management: Co-ordinate with the Strategy and Planning Team on content creation campaigns, ensuring deadlines are met and quality standards are maintained. Utilize project management software to track progress, assign tasks and communicate effectively with team members. Co-ordinate communications with authors, partners and contributors.
5. Content Management System (CMS): Work in the organization's CMS to create a compelling digital experience for audiences, ensuring all content is uploaded, formatted, and tagged correctly for optimal visibility and user experience. Train and support freelance editors in using the CMS effectively.
6. Social media content: Create social media copy to promote written and audio content that engages audiences across various platforms. Work with the social media team to monitor trends and analytics to optimize content performance and identify areas for improvement.
7. Technology and tool proficiency: Stay up-to-date with digital publishing tools, trends, and best practices. Proficiency in testing new tools to enhance productivity and maximize the reach and impact of Forum content.
Preferred Requirements and Experience
This role requires an experienced journalist, writer or reporter who is a creative and detail-oriented individual with strong communication and organizational skills. You are capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will need to show:
8. Relevant writing and journalism experience of 5-7 years, ideally on an economics beat, with excellent storytelling skills..
9. Sound understanding of economics and international affairs and proven experience of writing on related topics.
10. The ability to pitch topical ideas and develop angles with authors to create compelling features and analyses that showcase the work of the Forum and its impact in the context of current events.
11. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of managing relationships in a complex environment.
12. Project management experience of delivering multimedia content, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are used efficiently.
13. Mastery of editing, writing copy and handling revisions on commissioned articles, including devising headlines, suggesting illustrations, optimizing for SEO and writing social media copy.
14. Digital proficiency in using CMS, project management tools, social media platforms. Knowledge of data visualization software.
15. Analytical thinking, with the capacity to use data and audience metrics to inform content ideas and optimize performance.
