Background:
UNITAR’s Green Development and Climate Change Programme Unit (GCP) develops the capacities of individuals and training institutions in developing countries to implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and to advance green and climate resilient development. It offers a range of services, including executive training, institutional capacity development, support for national learning strategies, learning methodology development, and knowledge-sharing. Activities are carried out through partnerships with other UN organizations, bilateral development partners, as well as leading learning institutions and think tanks. The Programme also hosts the Secretariat for UN CC:Learn, the One UN Climate Change Learning Partnership (www.uncclearn.org ) and is a member of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) (www.un-page.org ).
Accountabilities:
The Training Assistant will lead on activities in the field of climate change communication, learning and peer-exchange. This includes development and implementation strategic communications approaches, organization of events, preparation of learning initiatives, delivery or affiliation of e-learning courses and resources, engagement with alumni, as well as exploring new areas of work, partnerships, and initiatives.
Under the supervision of the Specialist, Green Development and Climate Change Programme Unit (GCP), the incumbent will:
Support GCP and UN CC:Learn communications efforts
* Support the development, review, updating and implementation of the UN CC:Learn communication strategy.
* Support the development of communication materials, campaigns and content (e.g. online, printed, video) to promote UN CC:Learn, its key messages and activities.
* Support the translation of content and communication into different languages, particularly French and Spanish.
* Support the creation of appealing illustrations and layout for UN CC:Learn documents and resources.
* Support the managing and regular updating of the UN CC:Learn knowledge-sharing platform.
* Support the managing and regular updating of the UN CC:Learn social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube).
* Support the collection of impacts stories and the selection of and engagement with UN CC:Learn champions.
* Support the monitoring and analysis of communication data and statistics.
* Support liaison and coordination with the communication teams in other UNITAR teams and in UN CC:Learn institutions.
Support the creation of climate change learning initiatives, products, materials, activities and events:
* Support the organization of awareness raising, learning and skills development events and products on different climate change topics, targeting a wide range of audiences, in line with UNITAR methodologies and instructional design principles.
* Support the conceptualization of new UNITAR-led products, courses and services, in line with UNITAR methodologies and instructional design principles.
* Support the development and implementation of initiatives to engage UN CC:Learn alumni.
* Support the affiliation of new resources to UN CC:Learn in accordance to pre-defined quality criteria.
* Support the maintenance and updating of the UN CC:Learn e-learning platform.
* Support the identification, testing, application and adoption of new technologies for learning and engagement to promote climate literacy and action.
* Liaise with partners and stakeholders, as required.
* Organise evaluation processes, including compilation of data and elaboration of reports.
Support UNITAR’s activities in the framework of the UN CC:Learn programme
* Support UN CC:Learn global, regional and national collaborations on climate change, through the organization of meetings, events and peer-learning opportunities with key stakeholders.
* Support the timely delivery of UNITAR activities under the UN CC:Learn work plans.
* Support the reporting of UN CC:Learn activities to donors and partners.
* Support the participation of UN CC:Learn in international fora and events (such as COP meetings).
* Assist in exploring opportunities for new initiatives, services and partnerships under UN CC:Learn.
* Support the development of concept notes, project documents, and funding proposals.
* Identify and provide guidance to consultants and contractors.

Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a field relevant to communication, journalism, politics, economics, social sciences or environment.
Experience:
* Minimum 2 years of professional experience, with proven experience in the area of communication as well as climate change and environmental sustainability.
* Sound experience in implementing projects and maintaining good partner relations.
* Experience of working in multi-cultural teams.
* Working experience in the area of education, training and instructional design, including application of new technologies (e.g. A.I. virtual reality), is highly desirable.
Language: Fluency in English. Working knowledge in another UN language is desirable.
Remarks:
The benefit package includes six weeks of annual leave. It does not include pension and health insurance contribution. Please note that this vacancy is located in Geneva and is a locally recruited position with no international benefits. This is not a regular post but a type of contract specific to UNITAR.
