Mercuria is one of the world’s leading independent energy and commodity groups. Our purpose is to connect markets and to advance the energy transition. We bring markets together to support the world’s energy needs of today by trading, structuring finance, and investing in strategic assets, whilst generating over $170 billion in turnover. We are committed to advancing the transition to a more sustainable, affordable, and reliable energy system for tomorrow. We are well ahead of the pledge we made in 2021 that over half of our investment capital will go into sectors that are advancing the energy transition by 2025, to contribute to global efforts to combat climate change.
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Tax Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing our tax-related processes through advanced data science techniques and machine learning applications.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. Anomaly Detection System Development:
1. Implement and maintain a machine-learning based anomaly detection system to ensure the accurate issuance of indirect tax costs across multiple jurisdictions.
2. Continuously improve the system's accuracy and efficiency by integrating new data sources and refining algorithms.
2. Database Development for Credit Analysis:
1. Collaborate with the credit analysis team to build a comprehensive database of counterparty information extracted from unstructured legal documents.
2. Utilize Generative AI (GenAI) technologies to automate data extraction and processing, ensuring high-quality and reliable data for credit risk assessments.
3. GenAI-based Code Maintenance:
1. Develop and implement a GenAI-based engine to automate simple code maintenance tasks for ETRM/CTRM teams.
2. Enhance the productivity and accuracy of code management processes, reducing manual intervention and minimizing errors.
4. Transfer Pricing and Tax Control Automation:
1. Lead the conversion of transfer pricing and manually-run tax control processes into a seamlessly integrated internal software solution.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation and adoption of the new system.
Skills and Competencies:
* Demonstrated experience in developing and deploying machine learning models specifically for anomaly detection in financial or tax-related datasets.
* Proficiency in using libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
* Strong background in working with unstructured data, particularly legal documents, and transforming it into structured formats suitable for analysis.
* Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques and tools such as spaCy, NLTK, or BERT for extracting relevant information from legal texts.
* Hands-on experience in implementing Generative AI solutions for automating routine tasks, with a focus on code maintenance and data processing.
* Familiarity with GenAI frameworks and platforms, such as OpenAI's GPT or similar, for developing custom AI-driven applications.
* In-depth understanding of Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) and Commodity Trading and Risk Management (CTRM) systems.
* Ability to integrate AI-driven solutions within existing ETRM/CTRM frameworks to enhance operational efficiency.
* Experience in automating tax-related processes, particularly in the areas of transfer pricing and tax control, using software development and integration techniques.
* Advanced programming skills in Python, with experience in developing scalable and maintainable code.
* Familiarity with database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, and data warehousing solutions for managing large datasets.
