The Senior Optical Engineer will lead our activity in physical optics. As a subject matter expert in the corporate R&D team, you will be responsible for the physical optics product range at Focuslight. This includes diffractive optical elements, Metaoptics, and all products where physical optics plays a major role in realizing a certain optical function. To be successful, you need to have a complete understanding of the laws involved in manufacturing miniaturized structures for optical use.
Job Responsibility
In more detail, the Subject Matter Expert should:
Design micro-optical components based on physical optics principles.
Design, simulate, and optimize diffractive optical components.
Lead and mentor a team to oversee the production of such components on different platforms and perform the functional tests required to meet customer specifications.
Accumulate know-how from quick and inexpensive failures.
Efficiently use global internal and external resources to produce DOE products competitive in the market.
Establish technical documentation.
Provide technical support across the globe.

Professional Skills
B. Sc. / M. Sc. / Ph. D. in Microtechnology, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Experience in metrology and characterization of micro and nanostructures.
Fluent in English; proficiency in German and French is a plus.
Highly experienced in optical system design and analysis of diffractive optics.
Experience with optical design software and modeling tools (e.g., VirtualLab).
Skilled in numerical computing software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
Knowledge of using computational hardware and AI to optimize optical design more efficiently and effectively is a plus.
Profound knowledge in micro and nanofabrication technology and clean room fabrication processes, including DOE and metaoptics wafer foundries.
Familiarity with the capabilities of major DOE and metaoptics suppliers and their market trends.
