Postdoctoral Fellow in Chemical Data Science
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to collaborate on a cutting-edge research project that seeks to create an intelligent automated synthesis platform. The successful candidate will work with Professor Jeffrey Bode at the ETH in Zürich and Synple Chem in Kemptthal, Zürich.
Project Background
The project aims to combine the Bode group's expertise in synthesis and reaction outcome prediction with Synple Chem's synthesis automation. This will improve and expand Synple Chem's existing platform by increasing throughput and enhancing its self-learning capabilities.
Job Description
The successful candidate will work closely with synthetic chemists to integrate synthetic predictions and reaction automation. Research topics may include:
* Collaborations with synthetic chemists to optimize reaction conditions and generate data for AI/ML models
* Developing new active-learning strategies to support reaction optimization and automation-friendly protocols
* Capturing, managing, querying, and exploring experimental data generated during reaction optimizations
* Refining pipelines for defining, enumerating, and screening virtual libraries based on optimized reactions and available building blocks
* Developing approaches for rapid inclusion of new reaction classes into predictive models and automation protocols
Profile
* PhD in chemistry, data science, or a related field
* Extensive experience with Cheminformatics
* Software development experience
* Solid understanding of organic chemistry and chemical processes
* Experience with modern AI/ML approaches
* Understanding of basic automation techniques, databases, and data analysis tools
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Working Environment
* Collaborative working environment with both synthetic and computational chemists
* Applied research project with high-impact scientific and commercial goals
* Opportunity to conduct research at the interfaces of AI-assisted drug discovery, virtual screening, and automated synthesis
