The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is looking for aLinux Systems Engineer to complement its IT team. This role will focus on IT related activities that enable scientific computing and big data management.
The FMIs IT team provides both general IT services such as managing laptops, phones, email access, and data center infrastructure and specialized IT systems for more than 20 research groups and technology platforms, all based in a state of the art facility on the Novartis Basel St. Johann cus.
In this role, you will:
* Manage scientific storage systems, including VAST Data with petabytes of capacity.
* Administer state of the art Linux servers (Rocky) and support various scientific applications, including managing job queues on the HPC cluster.
* Automate processes, transitioning manual configurations to an everything as code approach.
About you:
* You hold a university degree in IT or have equivalent education.
* You have 5+ years of hands on experience maintaining Linux systems and applications.
* You can demonstrate proficiency with scripting (Ansible) and programming languages (Python)
* You can communicate clearly and effectively in English.
