Postdoctoral Researcher in Metamorphic Aerial Robotics

The Laboratory of Sustainability Robotics (LSR) is a pioneering group focused on developing novel flying robots inspired by nature for distributed sensing and autonomous construction of digital infrastructure systems. The lab is a joint initiative between Empa and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), specializing in robot design, hardware development, and multi-modal mobility.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and integrate a novel reconfigurable manipulation system for aerial robotics applications.
* Develop soft robotics manufacturing methods for meta-morphic aerostructures.
* Design shape-changing control architectures.
* System integration and validation through indoor and outdoor experiments.
Your Profile
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a PhD in robotics, materials science/engineering, environmental engineering or a related field. You should have a track record of collaborative project leadership and innovative ideas.
* Expertise in aerial robotics design, control systems, and experimental validation.
* A strong publication record in relevant areas.
* Excellent English language skills.
* Experience in managing or operating a research facility or laboratory.
* Familiarity with collaborative research environments, particularly in academia or industry.
* A passion for innovation in aerial robotics and a proactive approach to exploring new technologies.
