Summary / Role Purpose
The R&D Engineer II (m/f/d) contributes to the development of software products, components or (micro-) services in the area of mechanical simulation software. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives. The focus of the R&D Engineer II is the planning and realization of modules, APIs and front ends within a new collaborative, service-based, cloud-ready system for Mechanical simulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems.
Understands and employs best practices.
Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions.
Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
Works under the general supervision of a development manager.
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
MS in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or other natural science disciplines or BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 2 years’ experience.
Working experience within technical software development proven by academic, research, or industry projects. Good understanding and skills in object-oriented programming.
Proficiency in C++ and Python programming.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
Experience with distributed computing technologies like micro-service architectures and APIs (gRPC, REST).
Experience in any of the following: Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), CAD modeling.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team.
Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with web frameworks and database technologies is welcome.
