The Position
You’ll be working within the Manufacturing Science & Technology and Global Engineering group. As a key strategic enabling function for the Roche Manufacturing network, we support the changing product mix, new modalities and investments for our internal manufacturing capabilities and assets that ultimately bring the Roche pipeline to commercial production to deliver for patients.
Job Mission
As our Senior Project Director for Pharma Tech Technology (PTT), you report to the Head of Global Project Delivery and are a member of the PTT Delivery Leadership Team. This new leadership position will have responsibility for design and construction projects over > CHF 10M for Roche Pharma Technical Operations (PT), including functional accountability for project management and project controls on projects as well as line management for Project Managers assigned to projects the Senior Project Director is accountable for. As needed, provide design and construction expertise/guidance for projects < CHF 10M which are executed by the local site engineering teams.
You will possess strong organizational leadership skills, executive presence and strong business and financial acumen. As a seasoned leader, you must have significant corporate design and construction experience, ideally in a highly regulated/GMP environment with dynamic and competitive business conditions. Additionally, you have exceptional operational and business leadership skills, are able to deal with ambiguity, including change leadership and stakeholder influence abilities, and are able to drive innovation in capital project management approaches/strategies.
Your Impact
1. Providing leadership and oversight to the Project Delivery function on major PT project investments, including leading major capital projects.
2. Partnering with key PT members and site-based functions to:
Aligning on the PT capital project portfolio to ensure the realization of the asset strategy to meet PT objectives.
Developing business cases for capital projects to ensure the right projects are delivered at the right cost and the right time with minimal business impact and optimal sustainability.
Ensuring key PT investment projects are delivered on time, within budget and scope, and meeting safety and regulatory standards. Ensuring oversight and governance for project approvals, cost, schedule, delivery and strategic partner relationships.
3. Contributing to the development of PTT capabilities in project management and project controls. Ensuring project management processes are efficient and effective. Providing sponsorship to team members who have direct responsibility for these technical disciplines.
4. Keeping pace with global Design & Construction industry trends and implications for the PT business. Ensuring innovative, sustainable and cost-effective design and construction strategies.

You have leadership skills in a large complex capital investment with proven ability to lead and align a project organization with diverse technical disciplines; experience developing/realizing a vision and multi-year strategies. You also have a passion for developing talent and a culture of innovation, collaboration and engagement. Demonstrated ability to lead transformation and effectively engage stakeholders.
6. Your experience includes corporate design and construction functional expertise, including a portfolio of capital projects over CHF 10M. Proven success leading project management and project control functions. While You are ideally someone who has
11. a BS/BA in Business, Engineering, and/or Design & Construction with a preference for expertise in mechanical, electrical, environmental or related fields. An MBA is desirable, as are certifications in Six Sigma, Lean or Operational Excellence.
12. Demonstrated success with in-depth experience in Corporate Design & Construction either as a client or service provider and ideally in biopharma, life sciences or other highly regulated industries. Strong experience providing direction to architecture and engineering and construction management and general construction firms--and having accountability for service provider executive relationships.
13. Extensive business experience in progressively more responsible roles. Brings a generalist perspective from multiple experiences in business environments, ideally with a depth of expertise in design & construction, project management and facilities management. Multiple years leading multi-disciplinary teams and directly managing people. Experience leading leaders and matrix organizations with a significant workforce.
14. Outstanding analytical skills and financial acumen: capable of analyzing financial, quantitative and/or qualitative data and translating them into high-impact insights and recommendations, particularly in optimizing the delivery of large capital projects.
15. Experience managing a significant budget (at least $100M), meeting financial targets, and driving cost savings. Demonstrated success consistently meeting performance metrics.
16. This position will be located in Basel. Travel to support projects (10%).
