Sentec is a Swiss-American medical device company specializing in respiratory care. Since its founding in 1999, the company utilizes a deep-tech approach to develop and manufacture avant-garde technology for complex respiratory patients. Sentec provides healthcare professionals worldwide with non-invasive, accurate monitoring and effective therapeutic solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) Analysis:
o Conduct FTO analyses to assess potential infringement risks associated with new products or technologies.
o Provide actionable recommendations to mitigate identified risks.
o Deliver reports summarizing findings and legal opinions.
2. Patent and Literature Search:
o Perform prior art searches using patent databases (e.g., Espacenet, USPTO, WIPO, etc.).
o Conduct literature reviews in scientific and technical publications.
o Identify relevant patents and publications that could impact the organization’s projects and planned submissions.
3. Support for R&D Engineers:
o Collaborate with R&D teams to understand the technical details and innovations of new projects.
o Assist in drafting claim sets that maximize patent protection and ensure compliance with patentability requirements.
o Guide engineers in preparing detailed descriptions for patent applications.
o Review technical documents and ensure alignment with patent laws and standards.
4. Compliance and Competitive Intelligence:
o Ensure adherence to intellectual property (IP) laws and guidelines.
o Monitor competitor patent activities and technology fields and alert the team to potential conflicts or opportunities.
Requirements
1. Educational Background:
o Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., engineering or physical sciences).
o Qualification as a registered patent attorney (Swiss or European) or patent agent with a recognized patent office (e.g., USPTO, EPO, etc.)
2. Technical Expertise:
o Understanding of technical concepts related to medical device industry.
o Proficiency in interpreting technical and scientific data.
3. Experience:
o At least 3 years of industry experience in the technical field
4. Analytical and Research Skills:
o Expertise in using patent and non-patent literature databases.
o Ability to analyze and synthesize technical and legal information.
5. Communication Skills:
o Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with R&D engineers, legal teams, and stakeholders.
o Ability to simplify complex legal and technical concepts for our internal audiences.
6. Attention to Detail:
o Precision in drafting claims and descriptions.
o Ability to identify potential patent conflicts.
7. Knowledge of Patent Laws and Practices:
o Knowledge of patent laws and guidelines in key jurisdictions (US, EU, etc.).
o Familiarity with international patent systems, including the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
