The Position
Digital health technology is transforming the way we develop personalized medicines for patients. Roche is dedicated to creating community- and regulator-accepted digital endpoints and digital outcomes that redefine the way we measure disease progression in clinical drug trials and make them accessible to Biopharma companies and the research community. We are looking for an Algorithm R&D leader to co-create and drive the development and application of signal processing algorithms on sensor data collected in multiple disease areas to accelerate the development of novel digital biomarker data insight products.
Job Mission
We, the Digital Biomarker (dBM) Global Area in Roche Information Solutions, are an integrated team of scientists, technologists, data analysts and operationalization experts, that leverages mobile technologies like smartphones and wearables to collect objective and continuous sensor data from patients in clinical trials.
We co-create innovative digital remote monitoring concepts for sensitive and meaningful drug development endpoints, implement them in technology solutions, develop health related outcome measures with the data, seek community- and regulatory acceptance of corresponding endpoints and offer them to biopharma companies and research institutes for use in clinical trials. Moreover, we are establishing the scientific foundations for disease monitoring and screening solutions in clinical practice.
Your impact
As the Digital Biomarkers Algorithm R&D Manager in the digital biomarker data insights subchapter you will:
1. Be the scientific product owner of our library of signal processing algorithms to extract meaningful features from raw sensor data collected with our digital health technology tools.
2. Oversee and develop novel and improve existing algorithms.
3. Develop and execute strategies for validation of algorithms and devices.
4. Co-develop the roadmap for library maintenance and extension together with the technical product owner of the library.
5. Support and build the lifecycle of algorithm development from early research up to a computer system validated algorithm to be used in our products.
6. Work together with the dBM scientific solutions lead and the dBM data solutions lead to support the development of novel data insights products around our digital health technology tools.
7. Support the UI/UX design of novel digital health technologies to ensure meaningful data collection from an algorithmic perspective.
8. Scientifically support customer interactions by providing Data Analysis support for customer questions and supporting development of material for sales collateral.
9. Lead activities in matrix teams.
10. Be the main interface to other internal and external digital biomarker algorithm development teams.
11. Drive the understanding of the data analysis results by clinical development programs through the development of compelling narratives and presentations.
12. Write manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal articles to establish the biological, clinical and patient relevance of data collected in novel digital biomarker approaches.
Must Haves:
1. Very good university degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, natural science or informatics.
2. 5+ years of hands-on experience with signal processing (accelerometer, gyroscope, audio) of data collected with digital health technologies, optimally collected in neurological diseases in a clinical trial context.
3. Understanding of the V3 framework and similar approaches.
4. Track record of algorithm validation.
5. ML/AI experience.
6. Experience in working in a goal-oriented manner with the customer in mind.
7. Strong experience with analyzing and visualizing large data sets.
8. Experience of working collaboratively within a large team and managing your time against competing demands.
9. Track record of writing compelling publications in high impact, peer-reviewed journals.
10. Profound knowledge in Python (optional: R or similar software packages/languages).
