Position Summary:
As the temporary full-time EU Senior Payroll Specialist, you will independently work to execute EU payroll processing for 9 of our 11 EU locations using our third-party payroll vendor and local in-country partners. Our locations are: Austria, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey. You will seek to continuously improve our processes and employee engagement. You will report to the Manager, Global Payroll, and work closely with EU HR, Legal, Finance, external accounting firm, in-country payroll partners as well as employees and managers.
Work Model:
Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.
Responsibilities:
* Independently manage payroll vendor and in-country partners
* Responsible for compiling, reviewing, and timely submission of payroll to our third-party payroll partner for current EU countries: Austria, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, UK & Sweden, and Turkey
* Responsible for implementing new payroll setup for new jurisdictions
* Partner with internal and external legal teams regarding labor regulations and opinions
* Responsible for & respond to audits performed by local statutory agencies, internal auditors & EY (external auditors)
* Create and submit journal entries and reconcile general ledger account for Ultragenyx financials
* Present EU accounting details during monthly close meetings
* Responsible for coordinating all statutory payments with Accounts Payable or payroll vendor
* Create and maintain labor cost analysis
* Recommend policy and procedure changes towards continuous improvement
* Responsible for new concept and GL account setup with payroll vendor
* Manage ticketing system for your region and assist with managing Payroll mailbox
* Responsible for managing vacation use, accruals, and timely vacation payments
* Resolve payroll and tax issues quickly, efficiently and with a high degree of customer service; escalating or redirecting if needed
Requirements:
* A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Human Resources or equivalent preferred
* 5+ years progressive experience in EU payroll
* Fluent in English in oral and written required
* Strong understanding of payroll and legislation across multiple jurisdictions in EU
* Good knowledge of employment and labor laws in at least one of the above countries
* Understanding of tax regulations of more than one country
* Microsoft Office Suite; Particularly Excel skills: formulas, pivot tables, V-look up
* Expertise in liaising and working closely with other HR areas and Finance
* Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
* Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
* Flexibility to adapt to a fast-evolving environment
* Excellent customer service and team support experience
* Experience with a major HCM system required; Prior Ultimate Software experience is a plus
* Willing to learn and expand knowledge
