The Information & Communication Technologies Department (heig-vd.ch/tic ) and, specifically, the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (iict.heig-vd.ch ) are looking for a talented and highly motivated PhD student who will work on a project mixing computer science and pharmacology.
OUR RESEARCH
We are looking for a talented and motivated PhD student, ideally from a background in applied mathematics or theoretical physics, to work on the optimization of large language models (LLMs) applied to the detection and management of exceptional health situations (EHS). The aim of this research is to develop advanced machine learning algorithms that can identify weak signals heralding crises and optimize the healthcare system's response in real time. This project builds on the expertise acquired under the Interreg SIA-REMU program. In collaboration with the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG) and the University of Geneva, the thesis will integrate advanced approaches to LLM optimization, real-time medical data processing and crisis management simulation.
By joining this project, you will complete a doctoral thesis at the University of Geneva, enrolled in its doctoral school. Your work will focus on:
* The optimization of language models to detect and interpret weak signals heralding EHS.
* The development of advanced machine learning algorithms to predict and model the impact of health crises.
Optimization of healthcare resources using AI and deep learning approaches.
YOUR PROFILE
* Master's degree (or engineering diploma) in applied mathematics, theoretical physics, statistics, computer science, or equivalent.
* Solid experience in machine learning, data analysis, deep learning (DNNs) and language model optimization.
* Excellent command of Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow and modern AI tools.
* Strong interest in healthcare and crisis management.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous academic research.
* Autonomy, creativity and analytical skills.
* Basic knowledge in French.
* Fluency in English and good writing skills.
