Postdoctoral Fellow for Nuclear Materials Science and Engineering
100 %
The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation, and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science, and the economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations, with about one quarter of our staff being post-docs, post-graduates, or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.
Your Tasks
To study irradiation-induced effects on materials being or to be utilized in various facilities such as spallation neutron sources, accelerator-driven systems (ADS), and next-generation nuclear energy devices. You will conduct mechanical testing to investigate the changes in mechanical properties of materials such as Fe-, Al-, Ti-, Ni-, and W-based alloys after irradiation in the targets of the Swiss Spallation Neutron Source. You will use advanced microstructural analytical techniques to analyze the microstructure of these irradiated materials.
Your Profile
You hold a PhD degree in materials science and engineering or physics with a good fundamental knowledge of radiation effects in materials. You are a skilled user of different microstructural analytical tools, especially transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Knowledge and experience of mechanical testing of structural materials are preferred. Furthermore, you are a friendly, open-minded, creative, and highly motivated researcher.
We Offer
Our institution is based on interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic collaboration. You will benefit from systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on-site infrastructure. Your employment contract is limited to 2 years.
