Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Customer Engagement (40%)
o Partner directly with OEMs to develop and co-develop solutions specifically for their cutting system to meet customer performance and efficiency requirements.
o Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with key customers and suppliers via in-person visits and other methods.
o Interact with OEMs to obtain VOC with a technical focus. Gain insights into unmet needs and communicate findings to internal teams to inform both technical and commercial decisions.
o Conduct product demonstrations and/or publish reports that provide technical support to customers.
* Complete Product Design Projects (20%)
o Facilitate and lead ideation and concept generation; lead concept selection and alternative analysis with ability to persuade others to adopt or approve both internally and with customers.
o Develop alternate designs and advise customers on tradeoffs of requirement decisions; facilitate discussions regarding customization requests and clarify the impact on price, performance, and lead time.
o Standardize test protocols to ensure data outputs directly correlate to field applications and established design targets.
o Apply advanced understanding/experience in manufacturing processes to create a design robust to manufacturing that complies with Oregon Tool's quality system.
o Lead or contribute to large-scale projects, such as technical investigation, technical solution, manufacturing study, etc.
o Negotiate existing or develop complex new product specifications with stakeholders.
o Develop complex product testing methods and plans.
o Responsible for meeting all design parameters, including schedule, cost, and performance.
o Perform statistical and 3D tolerance studies.
o Facilitate and lead the following analyses: product failure, hazards, statistical, root cause, risk, competitive product.
o Facilitate and lead data collection and root cause analysis.
o Use the Oregon Tool product development process, adhere to or lead project schedules, resource, and cost estimates.
o Facilitate, lead, and provide critical feedback in design reviews.
o Other projects and duties as assigned.
* New Business Development (20%)
o Serving as technical point of contact with OEM engineering leaders, actively establishing relationships to enable collaborative product development.
o Leading rapid prototype build/test cycles and data collection to expedite technical decision-making.
o Maintaining thorough competitive product understanding based on data, customer feedback, and market research analysis.
o Providing product engineering support for the Oregon Tool product portfolio expansion to cover gaps in existing assortment.
o Assist in developing strategic plans, identifying required new capabilities, providing feedback on products, industry trends, and customer needs, and fostering partnerships with key players to support successful bid proposals.
* Supplier / Lab Capability Building (20%)
o Prepare documentation necessary to solicit project funding and business case to explain technical recommendations.
o Create continuity between projects by ensuring standardization in product testing methods and plans.
o Support lab resources in the development of processes, equipment, and expertise, while delivering accurate and meaningful data.
o Participate in cost reduction and DTV efforts from a product design/customer viewpoint.
o Lead technical activities with suppliers.
o Lead research with outside consultants.
o Facilitate and lead continuous improvement processes and projects.
o Lead collaborative efforts and maintain open communication and effective team environment.
o Define schedules based on projects and experience.
o Set tasks and priorities for self and others.
o Foster and manage internal and external relationships.
o Manage communication and assignments up and down in organization; hold others accountable for project organization and meeting goals and deadlines.
o Coach and mentor others regarding customer service; manage communications and opportunities with customers and recommend actions.
* Communication and Documentation
o Prepare design review packages.
o Responsible for minutes to design reviews, including action items.
o Prepare thorough technical reports with recommendations to project teams and management.
o Prepare all necessary communications with supply chain, team members, outside parties, management to ensure quality technical decision-making.
o Prepare presentations to outside suppliers, vendors, leadership team.
o Work closely with product management to understand customer needs and provide solutions to equipment issues.
o Lead peers and senior management regarding technical direction and issues; be aware of appropriate communication.
o Represent company at high level both inside and outside the organization.
o Foster and maintain collaborative environment; lead collaborative efforts.
