Construction Manager – Large-Scale Pharma Projects

About the Role
Are you an experienced Construction Manager with a strong background in industrial and pharmaceutical projects? Do you thrive in complex, multidisciplinary environments, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards?
We are looking for a Construction Manager to oversee the successful execution of large-scale industrial projects at our Stein site. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, ensuring seamless construction execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Site Coordination
* Oversee Lonza-owned construction activities and coordinate with the EPCM company across mechanical, electrical, and ductwork installations.
* Ensure smooth site organization, including material flows and construction facilities.
* Align and manage activities with other Construction Managers to mitigate cross-project impacts.
Technical & Quality Assurance
* Maintain an expert overview of 3D Coordination & Building Information Models (BIM), resolving clashes and ensuring installations align with designs.
* Conduct ongoing quality checks of pipework, supports, cable trays, and ductwork, ensuring compliance with 3D models and Lonza standards.
* Oversee contractor turnover documentation, reviewing accuracy and closing punch list items.
* Act as a Lonza witness for construction testing (e.g., pressure testing of pipework).
Stakeholder & Supplier Management
* Lead external planning teams and construction companies outside EPCM scope.
* Collaborate with Lonza Procurement on technical and commercial supplier negotiations.
* Work closely with suppliers, EPCM teams, and external logistics to manage equipment sizing, crate configuration, and site entry procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Ensure all construction activities meet GDP standards and industry best practices.
* Drive a zero Lost Time Incident (LTI) culture, working with EPCM Safety Teams to implement safety standards and corrective actions.
* Conduct regular safety reviews with Lonza EHS and EPCM EHS teams, ensuring proactive risk management.
Who You Are
Technical Expertise – Degree in Civil, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
Industry Experience – 5+ years in industrial construction, ideally within pharmaceutical or biotech projects.
Project & Scheduling Knowledge – Strong background in NavisWorks 3D BIM software and project scheduling.
Utility & Compliance Knowledge – Familiarity with clean and black utility requirements in biopharma.
Communication & Leadership – Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, problem-solve under pressure, and manage multiple stakeholders.
Languages – Fluent German & English required.
