Job Description
This position is part of our Grant with SFA and SHSU. Individual must be employed by the district and fulfill the attached criteria for selection. This position includes a $5,000 stipend for working with a Teacher Resident for the entire 2024-2025 school year.
Mentor Teacher Selection Criteria
* At least three years of successful teaching experience
* Track record of having a positive impact on student achievement outcomes
* Proficient/Exemplary evaluations
* Desire/willingness to co-teach daily
* Commitment to attending quarterly professional learning seminars
* Commitment to evaluating instructional performance in a timely and truthful manner
* Established record of confidentiality between site coordinator, teacher candidate, master teacher
Roles & Responsibilities of the Mentor Teacher
* Attend and participate in mentor professional learning seminars at school site (see training calendar)
* Devote the time needed to develop the skills required of an outstanding teacher applicant and provide quality mentoring to the teacher candidate
* Successfully and consistently implement a co-teaching model within a classroom setting
* Provide support to the teacher candidate in their new role as a practitioner responsible for student learning by listening to and helping the teacher candidate to solve problems and serving as a role model
* Facilitate coaching conversations that challenge and support the teacher candidate to use evidence to develop teaching strengths and assist the teacher candidate in gathering and analyzing learner data to inform differentiation in approaches to teaching
* Promote the profession and public education through expressing positive feelings about teaching and helping the teacher candidate attain the same feelings
* Report progress of teacher candidates through bi-weekly survey evaluations
