Your role
As a Conversation Designer in the Experience Design Center of Excellence, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of human-computer interaction. You will be responsible for designing and optimizing conversational experiences across various conversational user interfaces, including chatbots and voice assistants. Your work will directly impact how users interact with our products and services, ensuring a seamless, natural, and enjoyable experience.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and refine conversational flows and scripts for chatbots, voice assistants, and other conversational interfaces to ensure they are intuitive, engaging, and effective.
2. Conduct user research and gather feedback to understand user needs, preferences, and pain points. Use these insights to inform and improve conversation design.
3. Work closely with product managers, UX designers, developers, and other stakeholders to align conversation designs with overall product goals and user experience strategies.
4. Write clear, concise, and natural-sounding dialog for chat and voice, ensuring consistency with brand tone and conversation design best practices.
5. Maintain clean, modular, readable conversation design documentation for our products that’s able to scale.
6. Create sample dialog interactions and conduct usability testing to gather feedback and iterate on designs.
7. Analyze user interactions and conversation logs to identify areas for improvement and optimize conversational flows.
8. Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in conversational AI, LLMs, and user experience to inform conversation design.
9. Evangelize the importance of conversation design within the organization.
Your expertise
1. Proven experience in designing conversational interfaces for chatbots, voice assistants, interactive voice responses (IVRs), and related work.
2. Strong understanding of natural language processing (NLP), natural language understanding (NLU) design and its evolution with LLMs.
3. Ability to create engaging and natural conversational experiences that delight users.
4. Strong analytical skills to interpret data and make informed design decisions.
5. Solid grasp of conversation/interaction principles and linguistics (e.g., turn-taking, sequence organization, repair).
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and rationale clearly.
7. Familiarity with LLMs and their practical applications in conversation design.
8. Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or similar.
9. Nice to have: Experience with conversation design software like Voiceflow, Cognigy, Kore.AI, Human First, Rasa.
10. Nice to have: Experience in process mapping for business logic.
11. Nice to have: Behavioral economics science to better influence client decisions in conversations.
12. Proficiency in two or more national languages (German, French, Italian) in addition to English is an advantage.
13. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Linguistics, Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
