We are looking to bring onboard an Investment Associate to help grow and manage our portfolio of investments in Traditional Energy and Energy Transition sectors globally, with a primary focus on Traditional Energy sectors (upstream/E&P, midstream, downstream). The candidate will work across the full investment life cycle, getting involved in origination, evaluation, structuring, execution, management and exit of existing and new investments.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a small team in one of the world’s leading commodity trading firms and investors in the global energy and energy transition sectors. The candidate will become a core member of the assets & investments team, based in Geneva or London, supporting and reporting to the Managing Director of Energy Investments and the broader investment team in fulfilling their responsibilities across the full life cycle of new and existing investments.
Job Responsibilities
Investment / M&A Responsibilities:
* Assist with efforts to originate, evaluate, structure and execute new investments, both equity and debt, into assets and/or companies in traditional energy sectors globally (upstream/E&P, midstream, downstream)
* Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis on prospective investment opportunities, including building and maintaining financial models
* Produce analysis and synthesize research and due diligence findings into investment memos to support the evaluation of new investments
* Coordinate external advisors and internal departments within the firm to obtain all relevant inputs to enable the evaluation and execution of new investments
* Research on market trends to support investment theses
Asset & Portfolio Management Responsibilities:
* Monitor performance of existing investments, including coordinating internal and external stakeholders, as required
* Primary responsibility for maintaining financial models and performing periodic valuation and financial analysis
* Assist with identifying strategic initiatives to maximise the value of our investments
* Prepare internal and external presentations related to asset management activities
Skills
The ideal candidate will have 2-6 years’ experience within a leading investment bank, elite boutique, energy private equity firm, commodity trading firm, or similar corporate finance experience within a professional services firm, with demonstrated experience executing M&A, principal investments, structured finance, and/or capital raising transactions in the energy sector.
Financial Modelling & Valuation
* Proven ability to build complex financial and valuation models from scratch, including cash flow / valuation models, and debt financing models
* Demonstrated understanding of key valuation methodologies and concepts (DCF, NAV, DDM, trading and transaction multiples, CAPM, etc)
* A strong ability to identify and understand key value drivers and risks; to model sensitivities that stress test valuation and expected returns based on changes in these key value drivers and risks; and to communicate valuation analysis and findings with reasoned judgments
Project Management
* Comfortable and confident working independently but as part of a small team, whilst leading key work streams with the guidance of senior team members
* Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure and to tight deadlines
* Ability to coordinate multiple internal and external stakeholders
* Ability to coordinate due diligence efforts, complete presentations summarising quantitative and qualitative analysis, and assist with the execution of principal investments
Other
* Demonstrated interest in, and experience with, the energy sector, including upstream oil & gas and/or other traditional energy sectors
* Highly motivated, self-starter with a high level of maturity, commitment and ability to work well within an international team
* Strong and confident communicator
* Highly proficient with MS Excel, PowerPoint and other applications
* Proficiency with at least one of Bloomberg, Refinitiv Eikon, FactSet
* Proficiency with at least one of Wood Mackenzie, Rystad, or Welligence would be viewed as a plus
* Fluent in English
