The Flight Physicist is pivotal in advancing simulation models and experimental methods for the design, validation, and optimization of autonomous flight systems. Acting as a liaison between internal engineering and research teams, this role progressively assumes greater responsibilities in model refinement, experimental design, and system integration while continuously expanding its expertise in flight dynamics.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Flight Dynamics Modeling & Simulation:
Develop and optimize advanced computational models to predict the performance and behavior of autonomous flight systems across a range of conditions—from subsonic to hypersonic regimes.
Integrate complex physical phenomena (e.g., aerodynamic forces, structural dynamics, thermal effects) into simulation frameworks to ensure high-fidelity predictions.
2. Experimental Design & Validation:
Design rigorous experimental protocols for both laboratory and field tests aimed at validating theoretical models.
Analyze experimental data using robust statistical and computational methods, identifying discrepancies and suggesting model refinements.
3. Cross-Functional Integration:
Collaborate closely with engineering, software, AI, and systems design teams to seamlessly integrate physical models into Destinus products (e.g., LORD, RUTA, E, and G).
Provide actionable technical insights that drive design iterations and improve overall system performance.
4. Technical Reporting & Communication:
Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentations that clearly outline simulation methodologies, experimental findings, and recommended adjustments.
Utilize data visualization tools to effectively communicate complex results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in aerodynamics, flight dynamics, and simulation technologies.
Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance model accuracy, computational efficiency, and overall system integration.
Requirements
1. Expertise in advanced flight dynamics modeling and simulation methodologies across subsonic to hypersonic regimes.
2. Experience in implementing simulation tools (e.g., CFD, MATLAB, Simulink) and validating complex flight models.
3. Advanced degrees or certifications in aerospace engineering, flight dynamics, or related fields.
4. Familiarity with aerospace system design, experimental methodologies, and model validation techniques.
5. Ability to quickly learn and manage cutting-edge simulation technologies and customize models for various flight conditions.
