About the role
The Trader Sustainability, Bean Sourcing will be responsible for all commercial activities of their allocated region or a specific part of trading the cocoa beans. The trader should be flexible to take over other regions or commercial roles when required. They should be aware of the business issues or opportunities presented to the trading team by our in-house and 3rd party suppliers.
In this role, there is a close link with colleagues in the origin countries. Together with local sourcing colleagues, the buying plan needs to be executed, contact with suppliers maintained, claims handled, and work towards a smooth logistics execution of the contracts.
The trader is the link to the Trade Houses community and local suppliers and should always know which suppliers have what on offer and the prices. You will need to move quickly and have an instant understanding of newly arisen situations. You will also be selling to customers/factories, ensuring they have the right beans at the right time. You will work closely with the logistics team to handle shipping and storage issues. Together with the trading director, a buying plan is created for your region and each season based on various drivers. This plan needs to be executed and adjusted as necessary.
Key Responsibilities include
1. Maintain excellent contact with suppliers assigned to you, your stakeholders, management, and finance of receiving sites - ensuring readiness for EUDR Compliance.
2. Selling to customers/factories - managing the relationship, anticipating needs, resolving any issues.
3. Drive the P&L of your assigned region and optimize business and contracting.
4. Be the go-to person for operational issues around the trading and logistics desk for your region.
5. Execute the sourcing plan.
6. Oversee and participate in shipment allocations and the logistics plan.
About you
1. University degree; master's or bachelor's degree.
2. 5 to 10 years of experience in a food/commodity environment.
3. Fluent in English; knowledge of French is a plus.
4. Preference for understanding of financials.
5. Proven analytical skills; able to work with numbers and interpret them.
6. Knowledge/understanding of certification schemes and sustainability in general.
7. Experience with terminal market and financial tools related to risk management of physical trade is a plus.
8. Origin working experience is helpful.
9. Fully understand the risk management of running a trading position.
10. Create an understanding of the actors in the supply chain and be a relationship builder.
11. Structured communication style, precise and easy to connect with.
12. Exposure to stakeholders in different departments of a company.
13. Ability to maintain an overview and handle complex issues simultaneously.
14. Stress-resistant and able to stay focused at all times.
15. Able to communicate at all levels - internal and external.
