The Manufacturing Engineering Manager (MEM) is responsible for designing, reviewing, and optimizing manufacturing and assembly processes for both new and revised product designs. This role involves developing innovative processes to meet product and manufacturing specifications, managing industrialization projects with external manufacturers, and ensuring alignment with overall business strategies. The MEM will create project budgets, manage resources, train stakeholders, and collaborate across departments such as R&D, Quality, and IT. Additionally, the MEM will monitor and report on project progress, contribute to supplier selection and strategic sourcing, and oversee the management of critical manufacturing data, including product-specific BOMs and DMRs. This position plays a key role in driving operational excellence and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Working with suppliers, R&D and other manufacturing resources, develop and implement processes to transfer product designs into production.
2. Work with stakeholders to develop plans and timelines for engineering related transfer activities.
3. Partner with R&D, suppliers and others to develop new or updated products and/or improve processes.
4. Support the implementation of test methods and process validations at ONWARD and suppliers.
5. Develop process maps, procedures, and work instructions to support the designed processes.
6. Coordinate and manage functional teams to provide process and manufacturability inputs to designs throughout the product development process.
7. Manage bill of materials, engineering change requests, specifications, work packages for suppliers, etc.
8. Define and assist with implementation of KPI’s where appropriate.
About you
Master’s degree in engineering, preferred disciplines would include manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering and/or electronics.
7+ years of progressive experience in medical device projects, including scale up from pilot to full production.
Demonstrated ability to gather requirements, author specifications and test procedures, tracking errors, writing reports and generating documentation.
A track record of accomplishment in developing production process requirements and processes, specifications internally and externally.
Proven experience with small and large organizations, including production, desired.
Experience developing comprehensive business requirements, completing impact assessments, and contributing to business cases that identify the value of the change.
Solid understanding of root cause analysis techniques used for failure analysis.
Familiarity with risk management measurement and control techniques.
Working knowledge of process validation requirements and techniques in regulated industries, medical devices preferred.
