Assist the First Electrician in repairing and maintaining electrical equipment and machinery. One’s duties include the maintenance of high and low voltage electrical facilities. He must be able to work on his own and with little supervision. The First Electrician can assist in watch keeping routines at the desired time by the Engine Officer Chief Watch. One has to assist the ship’s engineer in all kinds of electrical problems.
Minimum Requirements:
Extensive successful experience in a similar position within MSC or other Shipping company.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. By arrangement with the Chief Electrician, be on board at any time the First Electrician is absent from the ship.
2. Consult daily with the Chief Electrician concerning methods and procedures for the maintenance and upkeep of the electrical equipment generally within and outside the engine room.
3. Assign maintenance and repair duties to electricians and actively supervise any overhaul and repair work.
4. Inspect all related work in progress, and on completion, assure that manpower is utilized to the fullest extent, that work is executed properly in accordance with acceptable standards and that no wastage of materials occurs.
5. Supervise the use of appropriate materials used for maintenance, assuring required safety for personnel and equipment.
6. Assure correct disposal of garbage to comply with International, National, and Company regulations.
7. Train personnel assigned to follow safe working practices, ensuring that functions are fully recognized by each man and that work done and the manner of performance conforms to established standards.
8. Prepare requisitions and spare parts, submitting them to the Chief Electrician for approval.
9. Ensure control over the issue and use of materials to prevent waste.
10. Always operate with full consideration for the comfort of Guests.
To oversee the maintenance of all electrical equipment throughout the ship and the engine room.
