Job Description
Your responsibilities
Are you passionate about beam optics and accelerator physics? Join us in tackling one of the challenges in the future electron-positron colliders (FCC-ee): the Final Focus System (FFS) design. Your work will directly contribute to CLIC and studies for future colliders like the International Linear Collider (ILC), Hybrid Asymmetric Linear Higgs Factory Project (HALHF), and the Future Circular Collider (FCC), shaping the next generation of high-energy physics experiments.
As an Applied Physicist, you will:
* Contribute to the FFS design of multiple e⁺e⁻ collider projects, optimizing performance and feasibility.
* Address large emittance challenges posed by plasma acceleration in HALHF.
* Improve and develop beam dynamics simulation tools for FFS optimization.
* Participate in experimental demonstrations, validating FFS feasibility and performance.
Your profile
Skills
* Knowledge of Beam Physics
* Experience coding in Python, ideally with accelerator codes such as MADX, PLACET, Xsuite.
* Fluent in English; the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
* You have a professional background in Accelerator Optics Design or Electron Beam (or a related field):
o a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
o or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
* You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Additional Information
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week.
